IDK, Oshkosh has some endearing qualities, but overall it's pretty run down looking. I absolutely hate Fond Du Lac. To me, it doesn't even seem like a Wisconsin city, it seems more like Iowa or Indiana or something. Very redneck-y, lots of mullets and NASCAR shirts, bad teeth, old clothes from the 80's, it's like another world.

Wow Has Sparta changed in two years. The Sparta High School received a rating as one of the "Best High Schools in America" in 2009. The private schools & The Boys and Girls Club are operating with the highest of standards. The Downtown area is growing with new store fronts and the Blues & BBQ bash, Concerts in the Park and other festivals give everyone something to do in the beautiful parks. The covered bridge, historic Library and museums, the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail, canoeing on the LaCrosse River and golfing on the beautiful and affordable golf course bring people from all over to play. The police on bicycles and the tree lined neighborhoods just add to the feeling of health and safety here. Walk into a bank and the tellers know your name and ask about your dog. If you need help with something you will find it here. I love living in Sparta! It is beautiful and vibrant and growing.

For what it's worth, if you're looking for a small town feel, but close to a metro area...the small town right off of I-43 are nice...you have Sheboygan right on Lake Michigan as well as Manitowoc. Denmark is about 15-20 minutes south of Green Bay and it's a small town with an excellent school system from what I understand. It's rural but close to a bigger city. The whole Bears/Packers thing...I wouldn't make that the deciding factor. Yeah, the rivalry is there, but that shouldn't stop them from making friends. We have friends who are Vikings fans and Bears fans...it makes for a fun time during the games.

Green Bay is somewhat more industrial, but you ahve Lambeau, the Resch Center, restaurants, all the TV stations are out of GB ...Appleton is a very nice area that has been named one of the best medium-sized cities to live in by Money magazine...lots of jobs and opportunities. There are several smaller areas to chose from nearby Appleton...just as long as you don't pick Kaukauna, you'll be fine You could look at Menasha, Neenah...I don't know ...Little Chute etc...This way you are close to both Green Bay and Milwaukee and you are in an area with jobs and restaurants the Performance Arts Center etc...

How do you guys feel about La Crosse?? Can anyone give me some positives and negatives on La Crosse?? Are there family events we can attend?? Most importantly, how are the schools?? And I know there will not be as bad of areas as Chicago, but if I were to move to La Crosse, what areas should I steer clear of ?? Thank you for all the info!! Although I still want to move to Colorado, I am undecided. Wherever I decide to go, my wife will stand by me either way!!!

GOD BLESS!!!

I loved LAX when I go visit...it has the college football (and a new stadium) that you are looking to share with your son (very cool by the way!) and its in one of the most picturesque parts of the state not in the northern woods or in door county...as someone else pointed out...Onalaska (basically a LAX suburb) is a great place to live as well and both areas have more then enough to do...LAX holds many concerts and quite a few big time acts...especially country music...if you like the outdoors you won't be far from good fishing on the Mississippi or hunting in SW Wisconsin...you can hike up the beautiful bluffs that overlook the area and you can also do a lot of biking...its located right of I-94 and you actually can travel up the western part of the state to watch a bunch of quality football if you would like as well...heck the UW-Whitewater Warhawks who are about an hour and a half north of Chicago have been to the D3 National Championship game the past 4 years and look to have a GREAT team again...you could look at living around madison in a smaller town like Waunakee or Oregon and still be located near the interstate system and be able to see and do many great things...the whole southern part of the state has great opportunities to do "outdoorsy/country" type things and then later on that night go into the cities and be a part of something "cultural"
