Tourist needs ideas :)
Hello all locals. Next summer we are relocating to the East Coast and will be driving through the state on our way and would like to see some great attractions among our country. Of course, there is Yellowstone but please help us out and give me some ideas of places and things to see that are not to be missed on our journey. What do locals love in the state, as a tourist what are some things that we should put on our list. I will also have a 13 year old with me so some family ideas are great also.
Thank you all for your ideas.

I live part time in Bellingham, fyi.
In Wisconsin, I'd see:
* Coulee area (W. Wisc) steep hills; very scenic.
* Devil's Lake State Park- Wisconsin's "Alps"- kidding nothing like Cascades, more like Chuckanut Ridge.
* Door County- tourists have not killed it. Yet.
* Nicolet National Forest- The Northwoods. Different eco-system than what you see in the PNW.
Lots of other places I'm forgetting.

Devils Lake is the most overrated place in Wisconsin....I suggest going up north and checking out the many waterfall parks and what not.....Devils Lake will leave you yawning IMO

I like the scenery around Bayfield and Superior. I know some folks who think Madeline Island is not to be missed, but I haven't been there.

I thought of a couple more favorites of my family during our time there:
Villa Louis in Prairie du Chien.

The Dickeyville Grotto.

You might find some other ideas, clicking around that site I linked above. That site has nice photos.

I would recommend staying at the Pfister hotel and seeing Milwaukee but I'm apparently the only one who'd rather travel to other cities and stay in hotels than see nature. That's my idea of camping!!!
On the flip side WI has a lot of pretty scenic areas I just don't think you'll be impressed coming from Washington State and then seeing the Rockies then coming to Wisconsin. I could be wrong though, I have been wrong once before.

I'd check out Door County as well as Bayfield and the Porcupine Mountains in Northern Michigan. All beautiful areas that shouldn't be missed.
