Who will be taking the swine flu vaccine?
With all the controversy out there I was wondering who is going to be getting the swine flu shot?

My DH gets the regular flu shot due to his over exposure to the general public but he won't be getting the H1N1 vaccine. I can't get either due to a Thimerosal allergy.
First and foremost, we do not fall into the high risk category so we wouldn't be eligible until, probably, after the first of next year when all the high risk patients will have received their vaccines.
Second, this vaccine has been rushed thru and has not had enough test time. The FDA is way too quick to approve things and then, a couple years down the road they issue an "oops, we made a mistake" statement and recall the drug. I am not interested in being one of their test rats, and there is no way I'd risk my husbands good health either.
Third, for those of us who are healthy, the swine flu isn't dangerous. We are actually better off getting it now and being done with it so the antibodies will be in our system and we won't get it again. DH & I both wish we would just get it now, tolerate the misery for a few days, and then be done with it. However, we never get sick so it's unlikely to happen.

I want more information before making a final decision. However, probably not except for my husband. He's the only one that usually gets the flu vaccine every year because of health problems he has. The rest of us are quite healthy and don't feel the need.

H1N1 Virus
I just want to tell you that my DH contracted the H1N1 virus the beginning of June and about died. He was soooo sick for 9 days with a fever above 102 degrees. Then, since his immune system was low, he got severe Bronchitis. He is a (normally) healthy 29 year old. So, I think perhaps you don't realize the severity of the virus, and may want to rethink your comment.

I have researched this thoroughly, including speaking with both his and my physicians, and a couple of friends who work for drug companies.
Those of us in the 50 year age group are actually handling H1N1 better than people in their 20's, provided all are normally healthy. The belief being that younger people are more sleep deprived, don't eat as healthy a diet, are more stressed, etc., which leads to a weaker immune system than those of us who are a bit older.
I'm sorry your DH was so sick and developed secondary bronchitis. That must have been a very frightening time for both of you. Hopefully he is now back to good health?
