I haven't really seen much of the Ft. McCoy area- but of course it the army base is a huge part of that area.
I've been to Sparta's downtown a few times. They have a cute little restaurant with some great sandwiches on really fresh homemade bread (we bought a loaf to go as well).
The big thing in Sparta is the huge bike trail. The trail is just a couple blocks from the downtown. The trail is really awesome. Goes through some incredible tunnels (you have to wear a headlamp or have a flashlight handy for a couple) since it is an old train bed. The trail connects to tons of others and there are campgrounds along them.

Just drove through there on Sunday. It was a nice small town with hilly wooded countryside.

Small quiet town of about 8000 i believe, and is an very cheap town for houses. I own a 4 bedroom house with a 2 car garage, workshop I paid less then 100,000 for. Here in Sparta there is a Piggly Wiggly (grocery store), Wal-mart, several fast food places, etc.
