Door Co. Question
Thinking of camping in Peninsula State Park weekend of Sep 28&29. Will the towns nearby still be active, or primarily shut down for the season already?
Still a good time to visit?

That's right about when "fall colors" tourists start heading up there. You'll have some company.

I can tell the difference around here towards the very end of October. I live one block east of Hwy. 42, scenic route north. Drastic difference around here weekends after November 1st. Towns try to get as much business as possible so it won't be shut down in late September!
I'd say a perfect time to visit the state parks, people will be around but not overwhelming. I go through Point Beach State Forest several times a week (either by car or bike) and its still busy.

It's beautiful country. When I was there I found a county road that followed the course of Green Bay. There was a family owned bar and grill with food to die on the bay side. The entire trip was awesome; I didn't want to go home. It is much different than the area around Milwaukee.
If you find the WI dried cherries, do bring some home. They keep in the freezer for a very long time and reconstitute for pies very nicely.
Enjoy it and don't forget to visit the island.

I live and work in Door County...Fish Creek to be specific. Colors will be great, and our weekend business is still thriving, with room to move, park and breathe. Pen. Park will be beautiful. Enjoy your stay!
