New to Wi. care to share info/advice?
Hi, I am Jill from Mokena, Illinois. My husband Jeff and I just bought property in Rusk Co. on the Chippewa River. We spent some time up by Minocqua and loved the it. Alas, we could not afford to buy property on a lake, so we decided to broaden our area search and found a beautiful piece of land near Imalone. We saw black bear, deer, lots of wild life. Congrats to all of you who were born here, or got smarter at an earlier age then we did. So pretty and the people are so friendly. Can those of you who are anywhere near this area tell me what I can look forward to in the changes of the seasons. What not to miss, best fishing, hiking, biking?
I look forward to learning from you all.
Jill

Fall colors almost gone thanks to the wind. You have the blue hills nearby for hiking and such. Fishing the Chippewa is good for walleye, bass, musky and such. Good canoeing also. Just watch water in spring we had a person drown near railroad tressel in that area last spring. Hunting is big in area and bear season on now, bow deer, youth gun hunt 10-11 and then gun season starts. Winters here been mild but worse than see in Illinois. Many lakes in area for fishing also. Cornell has a good bike trail that goes to Chippewa. Enjoy the northwoods.

Thanks! The first thing we plan on doing when we close on the property is raise a glass of suds at the Wagon Wheel. I also plan on seeing Ladysmith, Bloomer and Hayward. We are bought a piece of land with some elevation to it, so one of our first tasks is to build stairs to the river. Should be interesting. It was great to hear from a "neighbor." Jill

Great to hear someone enjoying Wisconsin for what it has to offer!
Be sure not to let the winter haters get you down. Put some clothes on and go out and have fun!

Have fun with the steps. Just watch how low you go as spring waters raise up good, not want to see a bunch of blood and sweat get washed down river.

Good call. Our small Popple river on our land rises as much as 20 feet in some places in the spring.
Post some pics too. I'd love to see some more photos of other peoples country scenery.

You guys rock! Thanks for the advice. We will not be moving permanently on the property for a few years, plan to camp on it spring, summer and fall. We definitely need to be there in the spring to see what happens with the water levels.

We did a search with spring flooding and some spots where could use a boat was actually normally dry land. High banks not as bad and if look around for others with steps or boat docks make get a idea. It is controlled by the dams so can change. Rusk County DNR office may be of help with average high water levels.

River in Owen Wisconsin
Here's some spring flooding on our small river. It's normally only 2 - 3 feet deep. I think it's cool to watch, just don't fall in.
