Appleton neighborhoods
Hi everybody,
Just wondering if I could get some opinions. My wife and I are looking at moving to Appleton in the near future from Manitowoc. We found a few different houses that we like but I'm not sure about the neighborhoods.
The house that we're very big fans of is on Meade St near College Ave. I've driven the area a bit and it seems pretty decent....
Just wondering if anybody has any experience with this area. Any info is very much appreciated! Thanks!

I like it over there. That area has a pretty big mix of great, old houses with a few... old houses. So the residents are a little mixed as well. But you're near City park and Peabody park, both of which I take my kids to often. How near College are you talking? If you're right on it, you'll encounter some Lawrence U students and College Ave is pretty busy there. But you can walk to a bunch of great restaurants downtown and the farmer's market on Saturdays is there too.
The best neighborhood depends on what you look for. So what do you look for? For the most part the whole city is pretty mellow and quiet so I couldn't really call anyplace high crime as compared to others for instance. I live on the other side of downtown, near Pierce.

Thank you for the reply!! It's so nice to get other people's opinions.
We're within a stone's throw of College Ave, so I'm definitely anticipating a little extra traffic. I can deal with it well enough though. And I can't imagine that it's too horrendous...
I spose I should probably just go scope it out some morning before work. I work up in GB so I figured the route I'll be taking would be to get back on College heading east over to 441 N. Should probably see how bad the traffic actually is at 7 AM :-P
Overall I get the feel from the (relatively) short amount of time that I've spent in this area that it's what we're looking for. We want something that's safe enough for us not to have to worry about leaving our cars in the driveway, you know? But we do want something that's got the "downtown" type feel.
I love Pierce park and the surrounding area! Actually the first house we looked at was right across from Pierce. The location was perfect but the house just wasn't a good fit for us. How do you like it over there?

We are just a couple of streets away from Meade, also right near City Park. It's a pleasant enough area but you will get a lot of traffic noise. Once you get used to it though, it really becomes a non-issue unless you have very small children who might enjoy playing in the street. It really couldn't happen in this area of the city. I do like being so conveniently located to just about everything.

We like it by Pierce, we've had a house 2 blocks away for about 8 years now. Sure we get some traffic noise from Memorial St (at night mostly) but otherwise it's a quiet neighborhood. Lots of people park their cars outside (me included) and I'll be honest, I don't like it! But in 8 years nothing has ever happened to my car(s) <knock on wood>.
I don't think you will have much trouble getting to work, there is stoplights at Meade/College and with the expanded bridge opening next month you'll get to the highway with ease. I leave for work at 6:30 and traffic is fairly light on Memorial and Oneida streets (two other main roads).
