A day trip to Mineral Point
Hello, all!
My DH and I are thinking about taking a day trip out to Mineral Point next Saturday. We live in Kenosha-about how far of a drive would that be? We have two small children(3 and 1), but they are very good little travelers. My guess is about 2.5 hours from Kenosha. Is that about right? Any must-see places? Restaurants? Pumpkin farms? We don't have a ton of time, but we'd like to squeeze in what we can. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Unless Mineral Point has changed a lot in in the 5 years since I was last there, I think you'll be disappointed in what you'll find there, with 5 hours of driving for the round trip. If you're determined to make the trip and want the most native dining experience, I recommend the Red Rooster Cafe. Try the cornish pasties there!
MP does have a nice tourism web site: http://www.mineralpoint.com/
If you like Lands End clothing and aren't averse to seconds and returns, check out the Bargain Nook store. It was the #1 reason my family visited Mineral Point, when we lived in Madison.
Your 3 year-old might like Crazy Frank's Liquidators. There are bunches of cheap plastic toys to be found in that store.
BTW, we did a couple of overnight trips to the outlet mall in Kenosha from Madison when our kids were young like yours. I can't imagine making that round trip in a day, considering there's no really good, direct route. You should consider mixing in another Southern Wisconsin stop and making the trip an overnight.

Mineral Point is more of a fantasy in the minds of a few artsy types than anything else.
Go on WI portal site-must be better going on in SE -WI .

It's probably worth mentioning that if you go to Mineral Point on a weekend and especially on Sunday, most of the businesses downtown will be closed. It's that small of a town!
No one has addressed your pumpkin patch request yet. Here is a link to the one that my family used to go to. It's about 30 minutes west of Madison: http://www.pecksfarmmarketeast.com/

Reason: west of Madison, not east

Thanks, Bowie! Yikes! The Mineral Point website makes it sound so, well, AMAZING. We'll have to think about whether we really want to do this or not, especially considering most of the businesses might be closed on Sat. If we decide to go for it, I'm taking your suggestions with me(especially the pumpkin farm! ). Thank you again!

I realized after I thought about this a second time that the pumpkin farm is WEST of Madison, not east. Big difference coming from Kenosha, although it's probably ~20 miles north of Mineral Point.

Love the name. I lived in Kenosha & also 15 minutes from Mineral Point. Yes it's 2.5 hours. Probably a little less.
It'd be a nice change of scenery actually seeing some rolling hills, but you can see the whole town in half a day.

Go to Cedarburg. Mineral Point is essentially the same thing, but Cedarburg is much closer to where you live.
