Northern Lights
Do we get them up North? How far north do you have to be? Is there a certain time of the year for them? Anyone see them? Have pics?

I live in central Wisconsin, I've seen them up here quite a feqw times times. Last year i saw them in the early evening, but most times I have seen them has been in the early morning, three or four o'clock when I'm driving up to the hunting land. I've always seen them in the fall or winter.

Oh God! I can't wait to see them! That in itself is reason to come up in winter. My husband has seen them in Canada. I have never seen them.

Oh, you'll love it! That's a beautiful area you're moving to.
An old friend and co-worker lives in Exeland, so I been there hunting many a time. Weekend before last we were in Phillips which isn't too far from you, maybe 40 miles as the crow flies.

We have some good Northern light shows up here. I remember once when a kid watched a TV show on nuclear war and northern lights were out woke up my dad thinking we were at war as they were so bright.
Some info on them...
There are both seasonal and long-term variations in the likelihood of a Northern Lights display. On a yearly basis, the Lights are at their peak in September and March, but also in October and April. The reasons for this trend aren't fully known, but it's definitely real, not just an artifact of the weather or other viewing conditions. The Lights can best be seen at around midnight.

Thank you, thank you, thank you! It has been a dream of mine to see them. I went on the Alaska cruise and stayed a week at Denali, never saw them. But, of course, at that time of year (June) it never really got dark.

Didn't see northern lights, but, oh, what I did see was just as good. Beautiful, iridescent glow of Milky Way, millions of stars, some shooting, and a big dipper sitting right on the horizon, bigger than life, close enough to touch.

I saw them for the first time around midnight during the winter. They were so bright and it was a clear night- at first I thought they were UFO's! Kinda creeped me out and I called my husband(I was on my way home from work). He told me what they were. Duh!

dont count on seeing them. i lived in WI my whole life until moving to Alaska a year ago and i've only seen them twice. both times i was out in the middle of the woods. one of the times i was actually in the MN boundry waters canoe area. heres a link to a site that forecasts the aurora, and one you can watch live feeds on. just remember the cam is in AK. and we are 3 hours behind wisconsin time.
