Default serviced apts/homes in la crosse, WI area

My company has recently given me a choice of moving back to Lowell, MA or work on a short-term project in La Crosse, WI. The project may be extended for another year so I chose the Midwest option because I am from IL.

Initially, we would like to stay in a furnished serviced rental apartment/house to see if we like the area and secondly if my wife can find a job. I have a 2 year old so I would prefer a place that is child-friendly. Plus, I don’t want to be a nuisance to the other tenants if they are all professionals with no kids. However, I haven’t had much success in finding this type of place.

Based on previous post I have looked in southern part of La Crosse, Holmen, La Crescent, and Onalaska.

I found one place near Riverside Park. Does this area qualify as the “bad” part of town?

The other location we are considering is Madison if we find we don’t like La Crosse for some reason or if my wife can’t get a job. She is currently teaching economics at the university level. We realize based on the current job market/employers in La Crosse, she will probably have a difficult time finding something similar if there are no positions at one of the universities. Living in Madison would mean an airplane commute for me.

-Are there any professional serviced apt/homes companies in the La Crosse area or do you know of any places that fit the description above?
-Is our assumption correct about the job market in La Crosse area?

From what I read people are friendly in this area. My wife wears a head scarf so it’s good to know most people are open-minded.

Thanks in advance

Yes... people are pretty open minded and you won't have a single problem. There are a few clowns, but they stay hidden for the most part!

Riverside Park? That is very nice around there. Its a beautiful park and the view is excellent. There really isn't a "ghetto" in La Crosse, but there are a few poor areas that have some problems, but nothing like a MKE or a Chicago. All the towns mentioned outside La Crosse are very nice, especially La Crescent and Holmen.

Thanks for the replies. I may end up in Chicago due to recent changes. If we are relocated to La Crosse we will be sure to check out the towns you all mentioned, especially La Crescent.
