I grew up in Illinois, near the Iowa\Wisconsin border and I'd like to make an observation.

You aren't saying anything that people all over the state generally say about tourists or how people from certain sections of Chicago can well....be a little full of themselves. This is a well known fact even for the Chicagoan's that certain burbs seem to be a little full of themselves.

However, many here are making blanket statements about "FIBS". My co-worker used to do this so I started emailing him the news article every time someone from Wisconsin did something really bad (10th DUI in a year or the guy that had relations with roadkill etc.) We both laugh about it and get that you just can't label an entire state based upon the actions of a few.

Good luck.

P.S. I live in the Kansas\Missouri area and the Wisconsin\Illinois rivalry is laughable. I actually meet people that would *never* live in the other state...family attitudes traceable to the civil war violence.

There are very few, if any, blanket statements about people from the great state of Illinois. It looks like everyone pretty much admitted that not everyone is considered a "FIB". It's a nickname for a jerk or jerkette from Illinois who happens to be full of him/herself because they are from the "Windy City" which also happens to allude to this mouthy or brash behavior. Chicagoans do not label everyone in Wisconsin a hick, and we do not think that all FIBS are created equal either.
The term itself references Illinois where I can't think of a single negative comment about a person from Wisconsin that identifies the state in the insult.

Speaking of littering, the worst is when someone empties the car astray all over the road.
Wherever you may be.

Let me give you an unusual perspective from here in Chicagoland:

there are 50 states in the United States. If I had to pick the one to which Chicagoland is most connected, it would be Wisconsin. Your state is our playground and we tend to know it like the back of our hands. Many of us love it.

Illinois? To us, it exists in places like Champaign (more than any other place), Springfield (to which many of us have to hold our noses), and Chicago's artsy off shoot in Galena. Secretly we'd love to replace collegiate Champaign and governmental Springfield with one city that offers what Madison has. The rest of Illinois outside those pockets? it hardly makes our radar.

So hate us all you want, we still feel a strong draw to the Badger State. And speaking of sports rivalries between the Wisconsin and Chicago, an oft forgotten one is being played this weekend in Evanston with the Badgers themselves as guests.

Northwestern-Wisconsin has always been one of NU's best rivalries and even a book I've read about UW football puts NU in that same grouping of Minn and Iowa as a rivalry (ok...I know the Cats don't register like the Gophers or Hawkeyes do, but it is hard to argue with this being a long rivalry with strong feelings in both Evanston and Madison. And this year it looks like two rather evenly matched teams are fighting.

So I guess I'll have to close in saying "GO U NORTHWESTERN" and letting you Wisconsin folks know we'll be seeing you next summer, with a few winter trips to the Dells and throwing our $$$ away at Pottawatomi in the meantime.

Honey, another reason I can't wait to move to Wisconsin: to get away from the Cub fans.

(sibling rivalry-sister is a die hard Cub fan. I am a die hard Sox fan-since 1968.)

I live acrost the big pond from ya, (michigan) and we deal with the same stuff from the chicago citiots. They drive like they just got out of the nut house, act like they own the whole state and expect us to cater to them. You guys over there usually only deal with Ill, but we get the pleasure of dealing with Indiana and Ohio tourist as well. They dont drive much better. Oh and I forgot to mention our own Detoilet area bozzos. I know the tourist dollars help our state, but I wish they would learn some common courtesy before they come up here.

and one more thing:

Northwestern 38 Wisconsin 14

Tollway, Freeway, and Interstate traffic is very fast. When you mix it with illegal aliens who know nothing about fog, ice or snow it is a disaster.

The last one of those that I saw caused a 20 mile backup wherein three rigs flipped, two senior drivers died from heart attacks, tens of of minor injures, several million in damages, called out EMT, FD and PD from four states,. transported victims to six hospitals plus killed the driver's wife and their five children. The driver from old Mexico stopped in the middle of a Interstate and turned off his lights because he did not know how to drive in fog, and didn't have the good sense to pull onto the shoulder. If that wasn't bad enough it was at a busy cloverleaf intersection. Emergency vehicles had to to back track several miles to access the Interstate to get to the accident scene. In the meantime bikers and trucker were on the ground trying to free trapped victims and calm the hysterical. Eighteen hours later the cops and wreckers and city creww were still trying to clean up the mess, flush the blood and spilled chemicals from the rigs. Traffic was still moving 35-mph in the only open lane, The driver was treated and when to jail after he was released. He has to re-live the horror of destroying his family for the rest of his life.

This is why I do not speed in any state and why I do not tailgate at any speed at any time. The touble with frequently driving at 80 is that 65 it feels like 35.

This is the only thing I have found about a huge pile up in the fog. And no where does it say anything about an illegal alien being responsible, except "tucano" made the comment on Nov. 4th.
