Pewaukee is nice. Okauchee Lake is awesome if you can afford it.

Are all the areas around Madison snooty? Are there any areas that aren't snooty?

So it looks like Dane county is a bit out of our price range anyway.
Thanks to all of your suggestions we have narrowed our search to three city/towns in Waukeshe county:
1) Oconomowoc
2) pewaukee
3) Okauchee Lake
Thank you for your suggestions!

I would recommended using shorewest.com has a great map feature to look for houses.

No that's ridiculous. You probably want to look at Cottage Grove or the east side of madison, or possibly deforest. None of those areas are "snooty" and all should be well within your price range.

Lake Mills is a wonderful little gem of a town. The kind of place you think only exists in movies or on Hallmark cards. I think it would be an almost ideal place to raise a family.

And on top of it all, there's a fairly kick-ass brewery there.

I gotta put in a vote for Lake Mills, too! It just doesn't get any better then that.
