Actually, Fond du Lac County went for Obama over McCain 56% to 42%, but is represented by a Republican in the House.
I think everyone here is making a mistake by always referring to the last presidential election. It was a land slide for the Dem's and areas that have traditionally and have always went to rep's went for the dem's and probably won't go for the dem's again. I think it is a better calculation to gauge a communtiy on how traditionally it has voted over the last 15 years. Even though FDL went for Obama and a lot of other conservative communities did as well I still wouldn't call them liberal areas.

So what?

The Chicago Tribune is notoriously conservative as well, but that's not reflective of Chicago.

Rush Limbaugh broadcasts from NYC every day and every major media market in the country carries his show, even liberal SF.

Please read my post again. I said that few areas were inhospitable to rightists, and supported that by citing "an abundance" of stations carrying our beloved talkers. Of course Rush is omnipresent in the US, he is big business. An absence of, or a dearth of, stations carrying him would indicate an area that might be less comfortable for Republicans and/or conservatives.

Coke and Pepsi are nationwide big business in the cola market. Both are available almost everywhere. Every now and then you will find a small area that has only one present, usually a campus or a stadium where there's an exclusive contract. But you won't find any large area (a city, or county) where you can't find one of the competitors if you look. Big business convinces people to accept them, and will permeate even when they are not dominant.

"Rush Limbaugh broadcasts from NYC every day..."

Rush broadcasts from Florida and has done so for several years now.

I didn't know that about the SE of WI. That would make sense though as when people are looked at as little more than a wallet for social programs, they leave to more economically friendly areas to them, not to mention places that are safer, more family oriented, more accepting of their religious beliefs, etc.

Areas within the madison leftist dominated media's sphere are more center left than what could be considered the exact same demography, but outside of all the 'information' put out. Lee enterprises is a good example of ownership of the madison newspaper, portage, lacrosse, etc. Their editorial pages are well, they do that echo chamber thing and print each others "opinions".

Rural places are always more conservative than the urban areas for many reasons.

Based on the electoral results over the years, I would say the southeastern part of Wisconsin, except for the city of Milwaukee itself is the most Republican-leaning part of the state.

In terms of cities, that's a guess IMO. Overall, I'd say West Bend, Fond Du Lac, Waukesha, Brookfield, Manitowoc, Mequon, and Sheboygan are the most Republican-leaning cities/towns in Wisconsin.

Generally speaking, there is a heavy east-west divide when it comes to the electoral map of the state. Even though many of the normally red-leaning counties voted Obama in 2008, it doesn't change that they remain conservative-leaning areas. They instantly fell back to their red-voting patterns two years later.

This is just from the impression I've gotten of them over the years.

Default Eau Claire

I might be moving to Eau Claire for a job. Is it a conservative city?

I don't mean to be rude, but why would you post that question in this very old and mostly unrelated thread?

Eau Claire is in a fairly conservative part of Wisconsin, but it's a bit of a college town. I'd say it's a slightly liberal-leaning city. Obama won the county in 2008 and Barrett won it in the 2010 election, but Walker took it this year.

I remember living in the "Town" of Brookfield, thinking as a 4th grader new to the school, I was from the other side of the tracks! Picture a cafeteria table, 20+'s girls. One gets up and says "raise your hand if your parents are voting for Nixon", they all went up, except mine. "now anyone with parents for McGovern'? I was frozen, so didn't raise my hand for either. Moral of the story, take Brookfield/Elm Grove/Hartland and on, they are seem ultra conservative!

It makes more sense to revive an old thread than to make a new one. As you can see City-Data has been campaigning lately to post even to old threads...
