Hello,
Anyone there? I was wondering what part of Door County is best? Sturgeon Bay or Ellison Bay and other areas in Door County? Any hotels or resorts to stay at while in Door County.
Thanks!

Sturgeon Bay is quite nice, rooms will probably be a bit less $ than further north, but it is a few miles away from the real charm.
Ellison Bay just had some places blow up, so stay away from there for awhile, pretty busy with clean up and the investigation.
The real question for you is - Do you want solitude or lots of people around? If the former, go to Jacksonport or Baileys Harbor. If the latter, go to Fish Creek, Ephraim, or Sister Bay.
Yes, you will find people very friendly, you're putting food on their table!

I would recommend ephriam or fish creek. Sturgeon Bay has not much to offer except for cheaper rooms you are still 30 minutes away from the real beauty. Fish Creek is gorgeous and they have a wonderful shopping area, it's right off the water as is Ephriam. There's more to do in Fish Creek ans you are also a drive away from Sister Bay, which is nice also. I would recommend any hotel you can find vacant in Fish Creek or Ephriam, all are quaint and nice. I live in Sturgeon Bay, so if have any questions feel free to ask.

How are the roads in Door County? What is the climate in Door County in the winter, spring, summer, and fall?
Thanks!

Sorry, it took so long for me to get back to you. The weekend traffic can get hectic but you're always moving, so it's not so bad. The traffic is thick from may to the last week in Oct. The farther north you go, the scenery is beautiful, you won't mind.
The weather is typical for the Midwest. This past winter wasn't so bad. I like how in the summer no matter the temp during the day it cools off nicely in the early evening. Fall is beautiful, a lot of festivals, nice time to vacation, as well. I am not sure but probably less expensive, in terms, of hotels and resorts.

I lived in Door County for 20 years. Traffic is never an issue. Not sure where that myth started. The climate is typical of anywhere in Wisconsin. It will always be cooler on the lake side of the Peninsula. As to where to stay - it really does not matter that much. The lakeside is quieter and I think much more beautiful. The bayside is busier. But keep in mind that the Door Pennisula is only 13 miles wide. So if you stay on the lakeside - you get the solitude and then if you want to go shopping - take the short drive to the bay. I would recommend Jacksonport or Baileys Harbor - both on Lake Michigan.

Door County is definitely over-rated and over-populated with Illinois residences in the summer. I would suggest vacationing around Duluth/Superior.

I have been to both duluth and Door County and it's Door county hands down! I stay in Ephriam at a place called the Waterbury Inn. It is very nice, clean and affordable. In the off season they have a deal for about $180 for the first 2 nights, $60 for the third, and $30 for the fourth. You can't beat it. check out the chamber web site for stuff to do.

Sturgeon Bay is the place to stay. Bridgeport Resort is fantastic. Make sure to stop at Sally's Soft Serve on Michigan Street (the best ice cream in Door County). Whatever you do, don't speed. The cops are nice, but strict.
