I grew up in Union Grove, WI. Went to Waterford Union High School. Definitely a developing area. We live on a small dairy farm, and there are plenty of new homes going up in the surrounding fields. I still feel like it's a nice rural setting though. Despite the rural setting, there is still lots to do in a very short drive. A new little strip mall opened up in Waterford a short time ago. There's bowling there--always busy. Showtime Cinemmas opened up a few years ago on Hwy 36. Alpine Valley and Grand Geneva for skiiing. Racine County Fair has always been a huge hit. It's the biggest county fair I've seen. In addition, The WI State Fair is within a 40 minute drive. Lots of golf courses too. Bong Recreational Area is available for hiking, horseback riding, etc. School system consistently ranks at the top of the state. I would classify the people as being very conservative.

Red face Give it a chance

I moved back to Racine after being gone for 10 years. we have 4 children and chose a location near i-94 for commuting purposes. racine is a DIVERSE, urban community. there many different kinds of people from every economic, social, and racial background. i think it is good for children to be exposed to these variations. i really appreciated having this "education" about the world when i went to college. being exposed to so many "types" of people prepared me for the challenges of life. it gave me clear picture of what the world is like. i was not sheltered and i feel it gave me a nice perspective.

try renting a house in racine and see how you like it. the downtown and lakefront are beautiful. there are some great restaurants and shops. the city has some sad, poor areas - but what urban community doesn't? i think you will find that most people are friendly and will try to make you feel welcome.

good luck.
