Default Bear Bites Womans Fingers off

Looks like alcohal was a factor.(with the woman, not the bear )

Woman bitten by bear at Wis. zoo, fingers severed | US National Headlines | Comcast.net (http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-national/20100306/US.Bear.Bite.Wisconsin/ - broken link)

I DO hope they dont 'punish' the bear for the womans stupidity.

Actually, I am sure the taxpayers of Manitowoc will be punished for her stupidity as some scumbag, ambulance chasing, atty will sue the city. Afterall, they "allowed" her stupidity to cause her injury.

This is America afterall - where we are all free to chase the legal lottery (at everyone's expense of course)

I called my sister last night and said, "I smell a lawsuit coming"! Reports today said they are looking at possible criminal charges (again, the woman not the bear)! All for the sake of entertaining her 3 yr. old grandchild, now that child has a nightmare to remember.

I go there all the time, great place to walk. Exhibits are very well marked. They don't want any of the animals fed, and they take precautions to make it difficult. All the times I've been there I've never seen anyone go off the boardwalks near the bears, cougars, buffalo, any of the bigger animals.

I would like to know where the child was when the woman and her boyfriend were struggling with the bear. Hopefully, she is not the legal guardian. If so, DCFS needs to be involved.

Me neither. Obviously bad accidents happen. Like the lady who was just killed by the orca whale or Roy from Siegfried and Roy.

But then there are people who just don't respect wild animals, like this lady. And that guy Timothy Treadwell who was killed in 2003 by bears. There is a documentary on him. He apparently "loved" the bears and went up to Alaska for 10 years to live among them at various times of the year. I saw video footage of him interacting with those bears. One of them was getting too close and he said, "Oh no you don't get any closer!" in a sassy kind of way and I'm laughing inside and thinking, "Uhm... you're on their turf, buddy." I have no doubt he loved the bears, but he didn't respect them. Not in the way wild animals should be respected, anyway.

My husband and I camped in the Smoky Mountains years ago. We were exploring the area there in the park and came across a crowd of people. They were closing in on a mother bear and her cub, circling them to get pictures. We were horrified at the stupidity of people then. We left as soon as we realized what was going on. Some things just don't change.

It's bad that the child had to witness that but moronic drunks who wont follow the rules get what they deserve.

The ignorance of some people never stops amazing me. I don't feel bad for this woman at all... who gets hammered to take a kid to the zoo? Only in (northern) Wisconsin...

I agree with all of your replies.
Why are people so shocked when an animal (bears, whales, wolves, coyotes etc)
ACT LIKE ANIMALS??

MANITOWOC — The woman whose fingers were bitten off by an Asiatic black bear at Lincoln Park Zoo this past Friday had a blood-alcohol content that was twice the legal limit, Manitowoc Police Capt. Scott Luchterhand said Thursday.
Luchterhand said Tracy Weiler, 47, of Manitowoc, tested at a 0.16 BAC. He also said she was tested several hours after the incident.
Her boyfriend, Lawrence Bosworth, 51, tested at a 0.26 BAC, three times the legal limit, he said. Bosworth was tested almost immediately after the incident.
