Unhappy Tornadoes in Wisconsin??

We're contemplating a move to WI - near Eau Claire. Is that area anywhere near the regions we've heard about getting hit with tornadoes not only this summer, but in other, fairly recent summers? Or does anyone know what the "tornado alley" is in WI, if there is one region consistently hit?

Our hosts here list some information about tornado activity on each city's page. From Eau Claire's page:

Eau Claire-area historical tornado activity is near Wisconsin state average. It is 18% greater than the overall U.S. average.

We live in north central WI. We had a decent tornado hit last week. Took out a resort and a few homes were lost too. But no one was hurt. I think the last time we had one hit that was this big was about 5 years ago.

You can also check out The Tornado Project Online at:
The Tornado Project Online!
In particular they list what they believe to be all of the tornados to have hit Wisconsin between 1950 and 1995 here:
Wisconsin Tornadoes
And a link to a National Climate Data Center website that will give more recent information:

I can't ever remember a tornado hitting the Eau Claire area proper. Having lived in MN most of my life I have never had a tornado hit the town I was in--even living in SW MN for a number of years that is tornado alley in MN.

Eau Claire is a GREAT town, I wouldn't hesitate to live there. If a tornado were to hit the area it would most likely be a once in a lifetime deal.

Tornados can occur anywhere in the state, but the MAJORITY of them seem to be south of a line from roughly Green Bay to the southwestern corner of the state.

As I said, tornadoes CAN and DO occur statewide, but the majority of them frequent the southern half of the state.

Hi all

Tornadoes will happen any place if the conditions are right .
They have had a few in the UP in MI if you look at the city-data info on the different towns.
So far north , yet they still happen .
Weathers conditions play a huge part , so one must respect mother nature when it demands it.
