I would tend to think so. Here in Appleton there are several of these and they apparently do quite well. La Crosse is a GREAT town--I especially love the vibrant downtown. Good Luck!!

I lived in LaCrosse for years (now in Boise) and it is a GREAT little city, beautiful surroundings with a younger scene (due to two 4-year schools and one 2-year school).
Good Luck. I am jealous.

I agree that La Crosse is a gorgeous area and a great place to live - I'm a 25year resident. I would suggest you do some market research before making a jump into a new business here though. We have some wonderful, upper-end places to drink wine and nosh (The Waterfront, The Wine Guyz), as well as many wine shops. As far as I know, there is no strictly wine/dessert bar. In the very recent past, some very nice restaurants have closed due to insufficient business, so do your homework.
I hope it works out for you. I'll be happy to be your first customer if you relocate!

Hey Lacrosse I A Great Town If You Like To Drink And Pay High Taxes . I Thought This Was The Worst City In The Country Until I Moved To Las Vegas . This City Makes Lacrosse Look Like Paradise. Sorry A Good Chunk Of Our Population Is Made Up Of College Kids Who Drink Anything Cheap. Lacrosse Will Not Support High End Restaurants.

This is an interesting post. I just spent some time in LaCrosse and while it had a very nice downtown, I have to admit I was struck by the number of bars -- seemed like 3 or 4 bars on every block downtown. That just seems way disproportionate to just about anywhere else I've ever been. Sure, there's a couple of colleges in town, but I've been in many other small to medium sized college towns, and there's nothing like that concentration anywhere else. Plus, I assume WI drinking age is 21, so probably about 70% of all those college students technically can't go to bars anyway. Any other thoughts on this?
Other than that weird bar thing, I really liked the town.

I am not surprised considering that it has a statue of the 'Patron Saint Of Beer', King Gambrinus, at the entrance of Firstlogic on Harborview Plaza, not to mention, Lacrosse is the home of the Largest Six Pack.
There does seem to be a lot of intoxicated people there and Lacrosse has been the focus of suspicious crimes and how it is or isn't addressed.

I went to UW-LaCrosse over 20 years ago and downtown (3rd St.) had lots of bars. I had heard at one time 3rd Street was in the Guiness Book of World Records for the most bars on a single street. Of course, back when I was there for college, the drinking age was 18!

Im not sure that I can buy that you are all that familiar with La Crosse, if this is your comment. Granted I lived in La Crosse for most of my life and its unfortunate that you didnt enjoy your time there, but as far as La Crosse not supporting High End restaurants you are very wrong. There are is very good bar scene and there are a number of high end restuarants already, the La Crosse country club (located in Onalaska, it moved a few years back), Hackberry's bistro (above the food coop downtown), The Freight House, Huck Finns... to name a few.
