Absolutely not. Report it to the DOL.

It sounds like some incompetent employers are paying people the "and a half" without paying the "time" for the overtime hours, and that's definitely not legal.

I actually got paid half time pay recently for the first time by my employer and I didn't even call it that until reading your post, which caused me to look up the term, and I found that it now applies to me during certain times when I work over 50hrs for two straight weeks.

my employer has said they may pay(in other words I my get nothing for working these extra hours) me extra money for working extra hours and that extra money is definitely not at my regular rate of pay.

I think this is based on a federal ruling issued by the Fourth circuit federal Court in 2011.

Basically from my limited understanding, some salaried non-exempt employees given certain rules can be paid half time pay for hours worked over 40.

It's not a Florida thing. I live and work in Illinos.

You mean salaried exempt. Any nonexempt worker needs to be paid time and a half for overtime. It is possible that salaried exempt are paid a bit more (1/2 rate) for extra time when they could get nothing.

What a deal. More work, less pay. Where do I sign up?

If you were responding to my post, according to that website discussing who gets half pay its salaried non-exempt. I know at my employer my job position is classified as salaried non exempt by my employer.

The workers who held the same position at my current employer, before I took the job, used to work extra hours and get paid nothing maybe get comp time but no extra money.

Unfortunately NOT everyone who works is covered under FLSA.. It is only for certain categories of jobs...

Wow, you guys need to unionize. Half time pay for working extra? That's like adding insult to injury. Don't put up with it. Call your DoL and file a complaint. They get away with this stuff precisely because you keep showing up and accepting it.
