You are right, in that inside a store is not a public street. Also, if you are told not to do something, it's respectful to listen.

But it is not illegal to take photographs in a store. It is not covered by copyright laws and there is no expectation of privacy. Photos and videos are allowed. Audio, on the other hand, is covered by wiretapping laws. In most states, as long as a 3rd party is present, and aware, you may record audio as well.

They end up getting at least the federal minimum wage, but how they get it varies by state. In CA, they get the minimum plus the tips. In NC, the tips can be applied to the minimum. So the NC server (at $2.13/hour) who averages $6/hr in tips makes $8.13/hr. The CA server who averages $6/hr in tips would be getting $14/hr. (CA's min. wage is $8, I think.)

If the NC worker does not bring in enough tips to reach minimum wage, the employer must pay the difference. So yes, they are guaranteed at least minimum wage. It just takes more in tips to get beyond minimum.
Thanks for the clarification. California's laws are great for the wait staff. The federal law works just like NC. So, as you indicated, and I indicated earlier, all waiters and waitresses get atleast federal minimum wage of $7.25/hr. In most states, more.

If you are going to try and fill a prescription that you have been doctor shopping and and might be questioned don't go into the pharmacy already stoned and looking like Mr. Joe Redneck. Don't start shouting out the pharmacists first name and calling me sexy "red haired thing" not that I don't like that, but, I know what is going on Dress up like you have a regular job and are shopping and you are a lot less likely to draw my suspicions.

This is not true. In my state the minimum wage for servers is $2.83.

Reread your state's labor laws, as well as federal labor laws for tipped employees, and you'll realize that it is true.

The $2.83 is the minimum out of pocket expense for employers. That wage only applies if the employee gets tipped enough to meet standard minimum wage of $7.25 or greater.

We're a popular non profit hospital. If you haven't heard about us you must live under a rock. So many people donate to us. We truly are a great place.
However, your money does get put to use no doubt about it. But it also buys our doctors several hundred dollar bottles of wine, imported expensive tea, luxury accommodations, and so much more. But this is the case with every non profit ive worked for so maybe it's not a secret.

We're still my fave charity even if I work for a-holes.

All the people saying that, Oh, well, restaurants have to make up the difference if not enough tips are made - yes, *good* owners will do that. A lot of restaurant owners/managers stiff their servers. Just like some waiters are bad, and some customers are bad, some restaurant owners are bad. Think about it the next time you cheap out on some nervous-looking new kid whose first night is tonight ... they won't be making very good tips. And the restaurant may care - or not.

Plus the "base + tip = minimum" rule doesn't always account for tipping out the kitchen, busboys, or bartenders (who do make minimum or more).

Correct. But the manager would be better off just asking the photographer to leave.
