Okay,
do you need to be certified ? I already have a college degree in IT. I don't see the point of them asking for certification. Let me know. Thanks

What do you want to do in IT? Software development? Systems analysis? Database management? It makes a difference....

Unfortunately for many general support roles certification is going to be a key to making yourself stand out from the crowd. A lot of companies actually screen out applicants based on whether or not they have certs relevant to the job they're hiring for. Just remember certs don't guarantee you can do the job, it just means you were exposed to a body of knowledge and passed an industry exam. It also shows a dedication to your career development as a lot of times you're learning the material on your own, outside of work.
