Posters, ff you are currently working after a long spell of un/underemployment, have the after-effects of the experience made you bitter (in spite of attempts to leaving it all behind and embracing your fresh start)?

I tend to get bitter about the past, then I ask myself what I've learned from it, apply it, and move on. It's currently a daily experience, and something I haven't overcome overnight, but eventually I will. In the meantime, I'm certainly appreciative of working more hours. The pay isn't great, but it beats the alternative by a mile.

We're all gonna have a lot to get over in the coming months/years. Living in a small 'burgh' in upstate new york has me just riding out the storm. Didn't ask for this crap our country is putting us through. Bitter? Nah. Got over that a little while back.

I'm (we're) really focused on enjoying what little we do have, instead of rotting, thinking of all we used to have. Since 2007, (into late 2009) a lot of anger and resentment, strained health and well-being for us personally. Not worth it.

Riding out the storm and ignoring ignorance, as best we can. While still unemployed.

Totally agree, and good perspective.

I hope things will get better for all of us, and that we'll apply what we've learned from this mess.

Though I have not been recently unemployed, I can relate on the lack of opportunities for career growth out there. I wouldn't say that bittnerness is the best reaction, but perhaps just having a more cautious/cynical attitude. For example, I'm holding on to more of my money. Why should I spend mine to stimulate the economy when the top 1% hold most of the money. Let them spend their's, either voluntarily or in the form of taxes.

Also, I have very little to no loyalty to any company I work for now or in the future. Staying with a company is no longer your direct route to a prosperous life. In today's economy, you need to job hop to get ahead. Two years and out is my current philosophy, though with a good company, I may consider a three to five year stint.

I think bitterness, in the long run, acts as a barrier to one's success. I envision a bitter person as someone who mutters to themselves, under their breath so that nobody else can hear it, and is hardly proactive.

Great post and I agree although not sure about the job hopping. In today's climate, it's hard to job hop because it's so hard to get a job! I am of the frame of mind that you need to hang on to where you work (if it's a good job) rather then job hop. Nobody gets ahead working for a company unless you are the CEO and drain it for your yearly bonus.

Well I'm starting to get a little more upset. The other day I finally snapped a little. I used to get upset when people said Obama is destroying the country, because I tend to not like absolute statements like that, and find them unintelligent. Now I am convinced that this is true.

We elected this moron and let him do what he wanted for a year - no questions asked. He spent billions and guaranteed unemployment would drop to 8.5% percent if he got his way.

This man now has the audacity to claim it's the Republicans fault (after he claimed it was "his economy" about a year ago) for not simply capitulating to every whim he has. The only thing I've learned is never to trust a Socialist to the government.

I'll admit, I didn't support Obama but got a little swept away and actually thought he would be good for the country. Apparently not. The man is useless, and yes I'm bitter to the fact that I will be paying his debts for the rest of my life - and I can barely support myself!

The going back and forth is just another day in the life of a politician. Keep in mind that he can't coerce the private sector to create jobs. I've read/heard of several business owners who claim to be holding off on hiring because they are "uncertain" about this administration's policies. To me, it sounds like these "babies" are upset that this guy's in office and are simply trying to spite the rest of us until they get their way. These people have the audacity to claim that they aren't spending money that they have because they aren't sure about what the president's going to do? Eff that noise. If they're so risk averse, why the hell are they in business in the first place? Spite, that's mostly what it is IMO.

I feel a bit underemployed at the moment. I have never felt bitter though. Bitterness and anger are useless emotions.

I have used my situation as motivation to apply for grad school at night, and when I graduate I will be able to leave this company behind for good.

+1

I have lived in the Chicago area all my life so when I heard another Chicago Democrat running as a reformer I just rolled my eyes. Heck, Rod Blagojevich ran as a reformer to restore ethics to Illinois state govt [he is now a felon]. The truth is the Chicago democratic party has a track record of corruption, making a mess of things with their socialism, and always wind up hurting the people they claim to be fighting for [the average working American].

Stop being fooled people!!!

As for the thread's topic: Yea I am angry and bitter. I live a responsible life with no debt and work hard. It always seems like I get punished for other people's irresponsibility and bad behavior and I resent it immensely.
