You have to keep it positive. Change it to something that centers around the idea that you had a desire to advance in your career and you are looking for more of a challenge. They'll eat that up. And I would think that should also make it clear that you weren't fired.
Don't worry you'll find something. But seriously, in the future? If you get so sick of a job that you need to quit, get something lined up first. Hope you at least gave a proper two-week notice.
But don't say you were laid off when you weren't. They may contact your previous employer and ask for more info on that. Then you're busted. There's dancing around the truth with positive-sounding phrases and then there's flat out lying. Don't fib about something you can get easily busted for.
If you "quit" without another job, most HR people take that to mean "fired" because they assume you quit to avoid being fired.
seriously???

Not true. In calif. I can ask if that person is legally rehire-able. This is how alot of employers determine if someone was fired or quit. If you are fired you are not rehire-able.
uhh whats the problem, just tell them you quit... didn't like the work environment there, etc. you don't have to go into details why you quit, if anything say there was no room for advancement, not enough things to do, etc. Have been looking for awhile... I'm sure they will understand a job is hard to come by. But then again, they could think you will jump ship on them as well.
I quit my job three months ago because I hated it with a passion. In hindsight, that was a terrible move. I should have waited to be laid off (they lost the client a month after I left).
You could say you left because you saw the writing on the wall, that by the way things were being done, you knew they would lose the client and there would be layoffs, so you left to fnd other opportunities.
Just because companies can't legally say someone was fired and why doesn't mean others can't read between the lines and there are always the informal grapevines and it's surprising what goes out on those.
