In my opinion, it's stupid and heartless for someone to state what they make. I had an acquaintance who was so excited about her job, she immediately told me what she made. She's been working for nearly 4 months, and bragged about her salary, and her vacation plans. I felt like a pip squeak for the rest of the day, then finally brushed it off. I think she should have been more considerate and way more mature than to brag about her hourly wage. She knew of some of my struggles, yet she still bragged. Never again will I EVER disclose discouragement to anyone. I've found that my circle of "friends" and acquaintances are immature and heartless. Lesson learned. Oh, and I wanted my thread to read, "Show Some Respect: Quit Bragging", but I accidentally hit the "enter" key.

Reason: Title: Show Some Respect: Quit (Don't) Brag
I don't tell people what I earn, because it's honestly not their business. Most people who care about this are out for 2 reasons, I think. They want to know if you should be paying, or want to know how much more successful they are. Maybe both.
I don't tell tell my best friends what I earn, it's tacky. I do tell my friends about some of my perks on occasion though. I might mention that I got a nice bonus but, will rarely mention the amount. I don't think that discussing vacation is bad though. I get 18 days +10 holidays, and that is pretty decent for entry level, even in banking it's considered quite good.

Those are excellent vacation benefits.
