I was fired, as most already know.
But my former employer paid my PTO.
Is this normal when you are legitamately fired? I thought if you are fired from a job you lose everything.

thoughts?

If you already accrued that PTO, then the employer may have been legally required to pay you out for it just as they would have to pay you for the time you worked since the last paycheck. I would just consider it a blessing and use more discretion with company email at your next job.

I believe this may be a state by state thing.

This isn't legal, this is company policy. What was the HR policy surrounding your PTO? This would be specified in your benefits package.

Legally, PTO is considered part of your wages, so they have to pay it. Sick time is considered a benefit, just like insurance and transit allowance, etc, and they aren't required to pay it after termination. But PTO and/or vacation time is another matter. It's wages.
