I asked him for assistance with something and he stated that he was busy and I said to him-"you will need help tomorrow during your presentation and i hope you fall flat your face"

Then he ran to HR? I didn' know a grown man could be so sensitive at the job. I was so stunned today when the HR person said-

"i need to make an appointment to speak with you"

This is the shock of the year. I won't even look at that fool anymore

Sorry...I can't sympathize with you.
Perhaps your co-worker overreacted in escalating it.
But your response to him was unprofessional and mean spirited.
Please apologize to him tomorrow and report back.
Thanks!

That was kind of resentful of you. Why did you say that to him?

He was immature. He should have just ignored your comment. Now he might start creating trouble for you there, I don't know.Immature people tend to do that if you get on their wrong side. Then again, if he keeps going to HR, then it will be he who will look dumb.

I guess I was sick of him not helping out the team and lost my cool. I was close to saying-"I want you to fail"

You are seriously complaining about someone running off to HR when you acted like a juvenile, uncouth jerk?

Seriously?

Honestly, with the lack of awareness you exhibit time and time again of being professional it would not surprise me that the coworker has been offended with other things you have said in the past and finally had had enough and went to someone who could hopefully do something about it.

I lose my cool with people at work too, so I hear you. But you're lucky to have a job in this recession. If he's not a team player, you ought to bring that up to HR and also to the man himself. I would. No need to get into it with him - maybe he wants that? Does he like to get a rise out of people?

Someone who does not "help...the team" looks bad anyhow!

Hope you learn from this one...it could be a painful lesson. Those are the ones that we tend to remember.

I'm in teacher mode tonight so here is another. Being a hothead won't help you succeed at work or in life.

It helps to have someone you can vent to when you're very frustrated. Or post here. People will listen and make suggestions.

Ummm, saying something like that, is hostile. Being a team player is better than being an a$$hole.

Your coworker did the right thing going to HR. You acted pretty unprofessional, but then again, you don't seem to be working in a very professional environment.

Exactly. TVSG, you had it coming bro so you gets no sympathy. You wrote a check your butt won't be able to cash. He was right in going to HR, you don't make hateful statements like that and expect him to roll over. I would have reported you myself.

No, TVSG was 100% wrong for making the comment he did. Love how you condone this clown's wrongdoing.
