i have some pet peeves when hireing people after reading the one post about if asking someone about there socalled married or not married status.. i have been at my company now 22 years and i allway am a amazed at people when we used to tell them that it was 5.1/2.days week and your weekends was the days we gave off on and you worked the hours that you where give you to work or you did not work for the company anymore ..now all these years of working graveyards shift iam still a night owl type of person and like to work graveyard shifts at the place is work .. ..

number 1 on my personal pet peeves when hireing people

after hireing the person to work this shift that we are short personal on and about three months into there first year with us and we get this from them all the time along with this goes both for men and women who do this

i can no longer work weekends or holidays or evening or night shift i need to have me schedule reworked to make it day time only monday through friday work schedule because of the my kids or wife or husband does not like the hours iam working

we can understand the need for something like this if the kid or you comes up with a life threating illness like cancer or some other type of medical illness problem then we will work with you to help in that area . then no you where hired to work this shift and these are you days off or you want to switch with someone then you get someone to take your day off and you take there day and if you do not show up for the shift then you both get writen up for it .. and sorry intill you get about 5 years or more on the job then come back and asked about changeing your work schedule that you are on ..

.if you have plans for that day to do something then get with your station shift team leader thats on duty with you that week to give us at least two weeks before to put the time you need to leave by this frame on the upcomeing two week work schedule ..

so that when we come around and ask for extra help and we are looking at the work schedule we know not to ask you when we going around and asking people can you stay over for about hour or two to help with the rush

number 2 on my personal area of pet peeves when hireing people ..

i have a college degree so what it might get you hired with a little more money than one person without one who comes to work for us ..

but it boils down to work experience that counts in our line of business ..i can not send you to school to get the knowage of how to run a nightclub or restautrant or a work a casino floor ..it can not be taught in school it takes the one thing and one thing only Experience to do that and the knowage that has been bult up over the years of working in that line of work

Sorry for the discrepancy; I read the initial post wrong, so I deleted it, but not fast enough.

I don't get your points. I think that regarding the first point, shift work requires negotiation, and sometimes accommodation. Second point, well if one has a college degree, then the trick is to match the theory with the practical application and experience. If somebody has a marketing degree, then the theory of segmenting/targeting/positioning a market is fine, but the application of this theory in a practical product scenario is key.

Your spelling and punctuation are atrocious. I'm amazed that you are in a supervisory position. That said, you can do some things to your policy manual (you do have a policy manual don't you?) that will address these issues. Just spell it out like you did in your post, review it with each and every employee, have them sign that they received the addendum and put a copy in their personnel file. Then when they complain you pull out the signed acknowledgment and you avert a problem.

I think it would have been an informative and interesting post but I had trouble following due to the spelling.

it just a list of what i think about when i hear people make those comments when working around them about how they should be treated because i heard it from a girl this morning and when i got home i was sitting here thinking about what she said .. ..

for i hate the socalled facts of the married workers or people with college degrees allways throwing it up in someone face that iam married so treat me diff than the single people or i have a college degree and i should be paid more than the ones without the degrees in our job .this was also told to me today by someone who been in the business less than two years ..

she basically goes i should make more than you because i have a degree in business and i tell i have 22 years of doing this type of work and come back when you have the right job skills to do this job ...

the company has this basic program in order to get to the top of the company food chain you are moved into diff prostion inside the company to get the basic knowage of how something might work and you work in the field from about three to six months time frame..so that means you have some basic knowage of working in the area in just in case we send you somewhere to cover the area if the person who is in charge of the area goes out sick or has to have family time off because of illness or surgery you get the dift ..

so that means i have guys and girls in the program come up to me and say i do not want to help wash dish in the scully area and i look at them like b.s. if i can do it and still do if needs to be done or go out and bus tables when we are busy then do not give me that not part of my job b.s.

i see them standing around with the tables waitstaff needing help with the clearing off the tables of the dirty plates and glass ware and silverware and the cleaning the table so a person can come and do a reset the tables with fresh plates and glass and silverware and table cloth for the next group of people to sit down and eat and they are just standing there doing nothing and watching the waitstaff work there behinds off and do nothing but watching makes me mad than a wet hornet and i will get apron and put it on and go out and help bus the tables why because i was trained by the older timers to allways help the staff when we are running at full speed and everyone needs to pitch in and help ..we where allways told that we are never to good to help clear or bus tables or help the staff out and that means getting behind the bar and bring ice and beer and whiskey along with a 1000s other things that needs to be done when this place is running at full speed ..
