Has anyone here ever been an online tutor? I applied to one company (which my sis just started working at) and we are wondering what is the real deal with these type of services? Is this a real 'paying' job? Or should I expect to make only $10 a week doing this?

I have an online job with a search engine (been with them for 1 1/2 years) so I'm passed the "is this a scam??" phase. I know there are many legitimate online jobs. I just want to know if online tutoring is worth it. I would be fine with an extra $50 a week at least.

I applied (and was accepted) to tutor science.

I applied to Tutor.com. It's primarily a tutoring service for elementary school students. But when I did a websearch recently, I noticed that there are several other sites that help with a variety of subjects.

Thumbs up online tutoring

I've been tutoring with Tutor.com for about 8 months or so now. It is a great part time job. Their business is steady and even though I work full time at a regular job I still can make about $25 per week. I think if you did not have a full time job it would be possible to make $250 or more per week. I tutor math and biology so it could be that the math subjects make me a little busier than other tutors. They let you schedule hours or work during busy hours that you have not scheduled. I think this is the company that will be gaining the biggest market share in the online tutoring business, but that's just my opinion. The summer months were a little slow last year, but this year it may be busier because they are doing a huge advertising campaign.

I'd like to comment on one of the other posts. Tutor.com is not primarily for elementary students as someone stated. It is primarily used by high school students. However, it is definitely appropriate for junior high and college students.
