I think you should start as a phone sex operator. It's a good way to test the waters and see if it's really for you. You seem like you have a LOT to learn about the sex industry.. obviously they shoot porns other places than California, etc common sense..

If your a dude you'll basically have to do gay porn for a while to break into straight porn. If your a chick and not a big name performer you'll make $1200 bucks to have dudes run a train on you.

There's been a few news stories lately about porn stars getting AIDs and stuff, is it really worth risking your life for what in the grand scheme of things is a pretty small amout of money?

If anything get into fetish stuff where there's really not sex but wierd fetishes. I kid you not there's an ad on craigslist right now for a girl to make a vid popping balloons pays like $600.

Most American porn is filmed in Southern California or Miami. I suspect it's a very tight knit community where all the big players know each other well, so booking the talent is undoubtedly a matter of networking and knowing the right people. Guys don't make crap unless they're the ones running the websites or production company.

I saw a documentary one time that talked about the porn industry. It said that men often have to start out making gay porn. I think I'll pass.

Edit: I see people already mentioned this. My bad.

I know quite a few people in the porn industry (used to minister to some of them), and was an acquaintance of Chi-Chi LaRue before so speak from experience.

New hires get paid ****. If you are an exclusive you will get a contract worth $1-2K per month giving them control over what you do and when. Typically that includes a minimum of 1 movie every other month for the duration of the contract.

Regardless of your sexual orientation you will probably have to start gay/bi and earn your wings.

The job is very demanding. A typical film scene of 20 minutes might take 2 days to film, and yeah you are expected to be able to give or take it for the 2 days (enter the need for viagra and other recreational drugs).

A friend who has been acting for a few years said they will exploit you as much as they can; the key is to exploit them more than they exploit you. Never get into it for 1 movie, get into it for 100's of movies so you become a name and can call the shots. He also said the real money isn't in movies but in dancing and escorting; if it was just the movies he would be poor.

Would I do it, don't think so - not from a moral perspective but from the perspective of someone who knows the players and realises just how hard the industry is on people.

Working in porn is like earning a living as a professional wrestler. It sounds better than what it really is. The people at the very top, that have paid their "dues" are the ones making big money and living a high lifestyle. To get to that point you live a rough life and make almost no money. I've heard about the drugs and the chances of aids, just not very appealing to me

Yeah, I stopped renting and rarely would consider buying porn because of free porn on the internet.

My brother has a good friend that makes gay porn, about the biggest way for a guy to get into the business oh and you better have an amazing body as in work out all the time. He has been in 120 films and makes about $1,500 a film. Still that is not where the money is for someone in that business. You do the films to make a name for yourself. Then you hit the club circuit to find the men that want to spend a weekend with you. In the case of my brothers friend he makes $3,500 to $5,000 a weekend.

The guy my brother knows started when he was 22 and has been in the business for 9 years now. He is one of the lucky ones. Like many in the business he would make the money then blow it on drugs. He finnaly went thru a program to clean himself up and left LA for San Diego. He is clean now but still going strong in the business.

Another thing to realize is that their is a limited window for someone in the business. Most people will be out of the business within a couple years. Better to take what you can make and stick it away. Lets say that you make a couple movies a week and on the weekends you bring in $5,000 as an escort. Your up to $8,000 for the week. If you can do that for two years and get out you could have $800K stashed away. Remember for some you could end up living free for the two years living off the guys who pay you. If you do this and get the jobs and have the looks stick that money away and do something else.
