If you are working for Kroger and then you want to try out some other job like McDonald after working a week with Kroger and then if you want to come back to Kroger can you come back?
I have had family and friends who worked at Kroger. Not a bad place to work. Better then fast food or retail. Takes years to get full time due to union rules ect. You will have to get a college degree to move into management one of their rules. Nice thing about Kroger you can move into different jobs from cart pusher stock boy. If you stay around get cashier and are full time. You are looking at 14 to 16 an hour full benefits. They have real good medical too. It will take years to get to that point.
It's sad that it takes years to move into full time at Krogers. What about WalMart?

I rather doubt you'd be welcome back if you quit after just a week or two to "try out some other job" whoever you were working for. The interview process and the completion of all the necessary paperwork takes time (= money) so why would an employer take you back under such circumstances?
Try working as a route person like supplying retail stores with snacks, bread, cookies etc.If you like it save your bucks and buy a franchise and be your own boss.I did it for 28 years before retiring.

It's not sad at all and the forward motion is all dependent on the individual and his or her ability to demonstrate capability on the job along with a demonstrated ability to go above and beyond the "call of duty". Those who have it get it and those who don't just don't last or remain in the same position they were hired for.
Why are you so concerned about advancement within the company, if, by our own admission (in the many, many threads you have started), all you want is a slacker type of job with plenty of downtime to "surf the web, listen to audiobooks, music, and think". I doubt any company will see any potential in someone with such an attitude towards work.
