I got a great temp job in one of the best companies to work for. The pay is great too. I'd like to give a little bit more details.

I lost a job last year and I wasn't able to find anything for a long time. A few month ago I got a call from a temp agency that I used to work for many years ago.

They asked me if I would like to return to work for one of the companies where I used to temp 5 years ago ( I worked there for 1 year and at that time I did not want a perm. job). Apparently that company wanted me back. So here I am working for that company. I feel so welcomed there.

Everyone said how happy they are to have me back. Even the President of the company stopped by to say - welcome back. In my initial meeting with the CFO I was asked if I would like to be hired in the future as they have a job opening. I said yes. My boss always tells me that she loves my work etc. They already have projects for me for the next 6 months. I have been there for two months now.

Today it happened that I had lunch with the Director of HR and she said that this is a great place to work for. ( Well, sure- I already know that!)

I get health insurance through the agency, but the rates are so bad that after paying for our insurance my paycheck is almost nothing. I know that the company that I temp for has great benefits. I love the work that I am doing and I would love to be hired.

How can I speed up the process? I don't want to sound too pushy, but our family's finances are not in the best shape right now. I really need this job. Any advice?

Talk to your boss. Ask what the chances are of getting hired full time. See where it goes.

Pop back in to the HR Director's office and tell her how much you love the company and that you are wondering what the process is for you to be considered for a regular position...... I like face to face discussions but if the culture there discourages "sticking your head into someone's office" go ahead and send a short email with the question.

Most temp firms cut placement fee to nearly nothing after 90 days. They may well simply be waiting that period out, as it makes no sense to pay 20 or 25 percent of a years pay to get you on board just weeks before the fee drops to several hundred dollars.

I really hope that this is the case. My boss told me that the reason they called the agency was that no one had my phone number to contact me directly ( we are not listed in the telephone book).. I don't know if this is the truth.

Just ask. I think it's fine to explain the situation if it's someone you trust. Personal stories that make you tell details that you wouldn't tell everyone helps increase trust, and hopefully will help you. The fact is that this arrangement costs your company more, and you could potentially earn a little more, but don't make it entirely about money, make it more about the fact that you'd like to stay on for a long time.

The OP needs to see what the contract says with the temp agency.

Some are like you say and let the temp go after so many months.

Others expect the employer to pay a fee that can be as much as 20% of the yearly salary to release the temp.
