Boy did you pick the wrong state. Didn't you research before moving to FL?
Coming from vancouver BC where the main industries is drugs and trades, and little else its not that bad. Vancouver and careers are an oxymoron, see the Vancouver job market thread in that respective forum.
I have had more here to apply to than anything there. As bad as it is, it is step up from where I was.The main difference is that here there real jobs to apply to whereas in Vancouver. it an extremely limited place with little turn over.

Well so is Florida. It is mostly a service industry state with low paying jobs.
Even an RN coming from say NY will see a huge cut in pay.
The running joke is they pay you in sunshine.
BTW, FL is known as the Pill Mill state, huge drug problem in regards to abuse of prescription drugs.
And the new Gov. (Rick Scott) is blocking a bill to implement a drug database to cut down on abuse. He owns a pharmaceutical company.
FL is #3 in the nation in unemployment.
If you're looking for a place with warmer weather try Texas.
I've been unemployed in Socal for over five months now, a few interviews, but no job. I keep trying, thats all I can do. And keep educating myself, getting whatever certifications or degrees I can in the mean time.
So I just moved to Florida from Vancouver Canada as a dual citizen. I am staying with Family here in Orlando. Im looking for jobs in Orlando, Miami and Tampa and it has been 7 week and nothing so far. Im getting really impatient. So I guess Im wondering how others are coping in the job market. I have 2 bachelors degrees in Psychology and Exercise Physiology and I recently did my MBA with a focus green energy business, altough in reality it was more finance and marketing hybrid and little about the energy sector at all.
I have had few calls and interviews but it seems like these companies don't have the budget or just interview people to give HR something to do.
Really, I get emails for interviews sometimes, I respond to say I am interested and they never get back to me.... How weird is that? How unprofessional is that?
I have money in the bank, but I don't know how long this is going to last, I mean how long can I send out 5-10 resumes a day) Im getting really frustrated.Eventually I'll find something, but I am also interested in doing my CPA to have more job security. I cant take being unemployed this long it feels like Im forgetting all my schooling ( my prior jobs were in personal training, sales, and various duties in resorts)
I am just trying to vent but is anyone in the same boat? Im 30 years old This is hell what is the real unemployment rate in the USA? Im not interested in going back to canada its too cold, too limited and too socialist?
does anyone have any happy endings? Im going out my mind, all my stuff is in storage too
How is everyone coping with this economy and the Job Hunt?
You cannot get a CPA unless you are currently working as an accountant for an employer and your employer sponsors you. So you can scratch that one off your list unless you want to go back for a third bachelors degree, get a job as a junior accountant and hope your employer sees fit to sponsor you for the CPA.
What is the real unemployment rate? Considering the people who:
(a) are underemployed for their capacity
(b) are working part time but really would rather have full time
(c) have simply given up looking and dropped out of the job market
it is A LOT higher than the government dares let anyone know about in their staged statistics.
PS: Florida is a very crappy state for jobs. Even when things were good, many employers in Florida only want to give p/t work and no health insurance benefits. Maybe you should go to another state.
I was a personal trainer during undergrad I also did guest services worked in hospitals and resorts, and some retail
Do some personal training to get by for now. There is never a shortage of people at the gym to find as clients, especially in Florida where it is hot and they let it all hang out and are scantily dressed all year round.
