This is not true. If you talk to anyone who has an MBA, they would point out that there is a level of satisfaction that can be reached. There is an entire study of theory on it. Warren Buffet and Bill Gates are among those who have reached this level of satisfaction. It is what makes feel like giving all their money away to a good cause, because there is no more vertical movement for them to achieve. Prospect theory demonstrates that the line of progressive satisfaction flattens out over time.

Ugh, it surprises me how uneducated some people are...... and I had so much hope for this country.

Defiitnely go out on your won if you can handle the risk. That is the way to really make money. Someone esle will frnkly take your palce who does want the risk or total time and committment to go out on their own.

Well, you are right... meritocracy takes a backseat to cutting costs, favoritism etc. in today's corporate world, but if you budget and downsize your lifestyle, you can save a million-plus dollars and quit to start your own business.

If you haven't gotten a raise in 5 years, you might be living on borrowed time so be financially prepared if it ever happens.

The way things are going, I think upper middle-class employees will become a thing of the past to be replaced by small business owners anyway.

A) $150,000 a year is an excellent salary.

B) What your boss makes has nothing to do with what your skills are worth.

C) Apparently your boss is (8 million divided by 150k) roughly 53 times smarter than you.

Now, let's get you some cheese to go with that whine........

I disagree with everything except C. Obviously his boss is smarter... Making a measily $150,000 after 10 years is certainly something to be upset about. OP has no one to blame but himself though.

OP, if you're think you're worth more, why are you settling for too little? Speak up or walk.

Anybody else notice we haven't heard from Davis aka 'six figs' since page 1? Can you say 'troll'? Close the thread.

Probably a troll.

But if not, my question would be, "Have you actually ASKED for a raise?" There are ways to do it without coming off as greedy or ungrateful, you know.

Yep, asked for the raise. We'll see what he says. For all the people that hate me for making a solid salary as it is, it's been a lot of work and some luck. I was blessed with a good family that helped me through college. But, I've worked hard the last 10 years. Up at 6:00AM and off to work everyday. We'll see what the boss says. You have to realize that what we do is build multi million dollar custom homes. As a general contractor our company is purely management. The real work comes from the clients cash and the subcontractors labor. But planning, organizing, budgeting, billing, coordinating inspectors, engineers, architects, etc. That's management. So its different to say a walmart worker is entitled to walmart's profits. The business has real estate, equipment, inventory, numerous distributors, suppliers, etc. The stores were financed, relationships developed, etc. etc. To say the cashier who swipes the product is owed a big salary...well no he isn't. Now, if you are a lawyer who fought and won a big case for your client... your entitled to some big money. If you are software engineer, who designed and wrote the code to a successful product... well it would seem fair to get a pretty fat salary... if that product makes millions of dollars.

And I do recognize that a lot of people have it tough out there right now. It sucks, and I'm sure my struggles are the last thing you want to hear about.... So please ignore. I'm just lucky enough to be in a niche market that hasn't been effected.
