If you're making $20/hr plus benefits you're doing pretty good in Eastern, NC.

A lot of MS and PH. D. scientists are earning less than that.

I make slightly more than that and thank my lucky stars that I do. Where I live, the cost of living is ridiculously high and wages have always been low. I recently interviewed for a store manager position for a newly opened company in town and could believe what they were offering... Aw store manager I would be overseeing 20-30 employees, doing all the payroll, HR, scheduling, inventory etc, and they offered a whopping $13 an hour.

Yeah I think 20-30 an hour is pretty good especially if your significant other can pull in something to help out. Raising a family would obviously be tough on that, but if your single or married with just you and your spouse 20 an hour PLUS whatever he/she makes should be sufficient to save money and do well. I took the job and start in two weeks!

I would die to make $20 an hour. What is the job? I am interested in retraining. Here in Indiana, you are lucky if you can find a job that pays $150 a week. The whole work your way up thing seems to be a load of B.S. around here anyway. Many people stay in the same job their whole life. Like, how many McDonald's workers really get promoted to manager? Few.

I know there are many who make way more, but I also know many who would give their left arm for a job like this. Thanks guys!
Good call. I think this gives you the opportunity to have both options. Get the job, and take classes still. I think in the end, you'll be better off because at that point, you'll have a degree AND experience. Depending on your discipline, experience may be more valuable than the degree.

And depending on how successful you become at your job, it may become more than 20/hr in a year and/or give you the opportunity to use tuition reimbursement (assuming they have it).

Another thing to consider is where you are living. If you can suck it up and stay with your parents (yes, at 25 that would stink). But, with very few bills, you can bank a lot of the cash and be able to add that job to your resume.

It's a decent salary, but as other posters said it depends on the area and what that type of profession with the experience you have usually demands. It also depends on benefits and opportunities for advancement, not to mention intangibles like how enjoyable the work actually is.

It equates to about $42k per year and topping out at $62k in 10 years this pretty much means you'll get 4% increases every year. Pretty good and steady, especially if guaranteed conditional good performance, however, after 3-4 years you should be able to get promoted to something even higher which could get you 5-10k more in one shot.

I am currently working for 20 dollars an hour and am still in college, so I think it is great. I also have no kids and only have to pay for my car bills...still living with my parents hehe Also, you have to start somewhere. For instance my company is only 7 months old, so I am one of the first people to be employed by the company meaning I can move up fast. Keep that in mind and if you stay loyal to the company you may be making 30/hr in a couple years.

Are you kidding?

Hell, 15 bucks an hour is good today considering how companies are trying to starve their employees out since its an employer's market these days where they call all the shots
