Did you actually fill out the paperwork and all that goes along with being hired or was it just a verbal "your hired "

You make a lasting impression on how you end the interview and your thank you letter

I Disagree completely. The interview finish and the thank you follow up help keep your credibility up, but a follow up call keeps them thinking about you as a candidate. I really hope that you are giving better advice to others than you do on this board.

I tell my clients to send a thank you letter. If they decided to call that's their decision. I personally think it makes you look desperate to call when you are told when you will be contacted.

So you tell them that if they are given a date to be contacted and aren't they should just give up and never find out what happened? Thats not such great advice IMO. IF you aren't picked you aren't picked, and calling back one more time to find out won't be the deal breaker.

And, unless you are living in a different world than I am...these ARE desperate times where the slightest action, or inaction, can make u get the job or not.

just because you are unemployed doesn't mean you have to show your desperation

I don't view it as being "desperate" but as a prospective employee who is enthusiastic about the opportunity to work at the hiring company.

I don't know why you see asking an employer for a job as "desperation". Generally it tells an employer that you want to work for "them". I look after HR in a construction related company, and the people who call back do get the jobs, before the people who don't. I have never seen a thank you letter from a prospective employee for a construction job after an interview, but I do get phone calls, and I do respond to them. I think you ought to re-think your career strategy for your ex-con clientele basis. Seriously.
