When it comes to unemployment gaps - one strategy is to say you are still employed at your last employer as many future employers will not ask for a reference from current employer....
Yes this can come back to bite you in the butt....But I have never had a potential employer call my current employer..even after I was hired

My biggest gap on my resume when I was unemployed was 4 months and if I continued to be unemployed I would have found a way to close the gap so my resume could show I'm unemployed but still ACTIVE.
Why would any employer want to interview a person who had been unemployed for TWO years and currently doing INACTIVE???

lol..im sorry, but you're a damn idiot. How does someone work for free when they can't pay their bills? Why would ANY employer expect someone to work for nothing when they're struggling to put food on the table?

It's sad that you don't know the answer to that question.

Really TV, you don't seem to have a clue as to what a normal job hunt is like. As others have said, you seem to have a chip on your shoulder where something you did failed for you in the past, and you are determined to drive this point home with everyone else, even if it is totally unrelated to the job hunt for that particular person.
Try giving some helpful advice, instead of just saying you can't have this, and blah blah.

I gave helpful advice when the poster asked what can they put on their resume if they are not working.and I mentioned Community Service and Internships.
The point is if you are sending a resume to a company in May of 2011, there has to be something on your resume that you are doing in 2011 not 2009

Parttime...I'm with you. People in this day and age have to do whatever they need in order to survive. As long as you aren't physically hurting someone or saying something crazy like you worked at NASA. If you don't workout at the job, they won't have much trouble replacing you. If you are a good worker it will show regarless of what your resume says. As DMX once said 'thou shall not steal, but I will to eat'. I had a 6 month gap prior to the job I've held for 6, going on 7 years so disregard anyone saying you (the OP) have to put down everything exactly as its happened to you. If I didn't stretch that 6 month gap 6 years ago and was 100% honest I would have had to tell my employer after I finished college I traveled Europe and had the time of my life boozing it up and excuse my French sleeping with anything I saw moving. I'm sure that type of honesty would have helped me land my current job. Being 100% honest if its going to hurt your chances is flat out dumb, I'm sorry. If I had children and my family was gonna starve a resume gap and being honest wouldn't do anything to my conscience. Get a friend to vouch for you at his or her company and go get that job. Sorry for the rant

I'm not saying that being 100% honest is the right idea, but people are making up so many excuses and fudging their resumes so much that the employers are going to see right through them when they get on the job. The employer won't be happy, may fire the new employee and then they are back to hiring again. Where as if they hired a proper employee who had everything down on their true resume, they could save time and money, and everyone would be happy.

Then that is THEIR fault. Dummies should learn how to fib within reason next time around.
Yeah, you're right. People should just tell the truth. I don't want to have to worry about what happens to them..but until them...I'ma do meeh! lmao

You guys all seem to be on the East Coast. I had no idea the economy was so crappy there that everyone was making up false work and not showing a gap.

LOL, I guess we're a bunch of criminals out here. haha jk
Yeah, not everyone is doing it. Many people don't want to take the risk and I do not blame them for being honest. I'm not dissuading them in any way, shape or form, but they just better not knock on me for hustlin' ha
