Some employers are completely unprofessional. I am 0 for 16 in my interviews over a 30 month time period and a shocking 25% (4) didn't even bother to ever notify me that they selected another candidate. No response to my emails, no letter in the mail, nothing. That being said, there were plenty of employers that notified me of my rejection in a very timely manner. I even received "rejection" emails and letters from some employers where I just sent an application, but didn't make it to an interview. Now, I don't think that is necessary (but I very much appreciate it), but if you interview for a position, the least they can do is send you an email stating that you didn't get the job!

Agreed. I completed three rounds of interviews with one organization, and they never bothered to send a rejection letter/email. Not doing this after one round of interviews is already irritating, but I still can't believe that I went in to interview at their offices on three different occasions, met with 7 different people, and they couldn't be bothered to send the rejection.

That is ridiculous. I often don't get many rejection emails or phone calls, many times I have to call them and have them tell me I have been rejected. If I never called, they would never tell me. Like I've been saying on this board for ages now, I can't wait for it to be the employees market.
You would think so right? They don't like that answer though. They are NEVER satisified. They expect that EVERYONE should be working full-time, consecuitively, since the day they turned 16.
They should realize that things happen in life. Expecting EVERYONE to have worked without a gap is unrealistic. There are things in life that are not in our control.
Make up something that is impossible to verify. Say you went overseas or something and did some uninteresting work. Back ground checks dont pull up as much stuff as people think unless your undergoing a top secret military clearance, even secret military clearances are not all that. A top secret can take 6 months to a year to complete but thats not even relevant unless your working at Area 51.

Umm actually many active duty military offices and enlisted have top secret clearances for bases inside and outside the US.
As far as gaps go, I have never had a problem with an employer looking at the gap as a failure on my part.
I mean when you say they look at it, do they devote the whole conversation to why are you not working right now? How have you failed at your life because you have no job? I seriously odn't think they are that rude.
