Although not everyone could do the engineering curriculum with all the math, chemistry and physics that's involved .... I do think that students need to carefully select their major with a career in mind. If a student's goal is to teach or work in a museum, then a major in art history would be a valid choice. They also need to research the income potential and employment outlook so they are aware of what they are up against when they graduate. It is the students that fail to assess these things that often find themselves unemployed and blaming their institution.

The problem is usually not the product (the tuition) but the extremely high and climbing fees that may not make it a wise choice for many people who do not come from wealthy or upper class families. It is a shame to even get to this point.

Yes, and it makes no sense. Expenses for things a university would pay for like salary, maintenance, construction, etc. have risen modestly over the last ten years while education costs have skyrocketed in a completed unrealistic trajectory. I don't understand how anyone can justify the huge increases in tuition costs.

That's the whole point of the documentary discussing why college tuition is increasing but from reading the post it doesn't look a single person actually watched more than 5 minutes of the video.

Also another point is a lot of people attending are getting degrees that have almost no real world application ie Liberal arts, sociology, poly sci, ethnic studies. Many people are getting these degrees only to find out there is no jobs for them. So they go right back to doing what they were doing before, waiting tables, working at Walmart etc.

Are whole idea that every single kid needs to go to college is ridiculous. The result is degree inflation, everybody and there mom has a bachelors degree meaning that it's just not that valuable as it used to be. Instead many people are better off skipping college and learning skilled trades that can actually lead to a decent career. But don't listen to me go ahead and get that bachelors in Albino studies and come out 30k in debt.
