I'm thankful that I have a job now even if it is just a fraction of what I used to make. I've been making zero for months now, so this is a welcome change. My bank account got down to $7! I work at the movie theater, and I'm the oldest usher there by far. It feels weird working around a bunch of kids, but I fit in well (I am kinda juvenile at times )

Congratulations! Sounds like you've got a great attitude about it; hopefully you'll find better-paying employment soon.

An aunt of mine worked as a receptionist for a tech outfit (a little one you may have heard of called Apple ) when she was in her 60s and 70s. She was old enough to be most of her co-workers grandmother, and loved it.

I know where you coming from, this time last year I moved to Kentucky and didn't get ANY employment until I got a temp night shift job in October that paid $9 an hour (I was making $13 an hour with a 7-4 schedule in VA). Then I quit that and found a pt-time job at a bank that also paid $9 an hour. Did a couple of months there and now I ended up with a full-time job that pays $12 an hour which will soon be $13.

While it may not be much it's a start.

Good for you!

Recognizing the reality that this sort of move lies in the path of nearly every unemployed person...
try to find one that at least offers something else that you can use in your life...
along with the minimum wage money.

Can you use it to learn a new job skill?
Can you use it to learn a language?
Can you use it to lose some weight?
Can you use it to meet new friends?
Can you use it to ... ?

Congrats! I remember I was out of work for a long time and then snagged a part time gig. My first paycheck from the job was for 54 bucks. I felt rich. Congrats again!

Congratulations on your new job! See if you can find any bars around that do quiz night. Will all of your new-found movie trivia, you're bound to win the nightly kitty sooner or later, right? I don't even think you have to report it as income earned....

theater work isnt too bad. You get free movies and popcorn. I loved the job for a couple years. I got tired of it though so I moved on. I still talk to my old boss at the huge theater in town that he was moved to.
