Has anyone had an experience where you are constantly being paid late? I get paid weekly (or supposed to). I have been working here for two months and I have an absolutely horrendous and incompetent boss. Out of the two months I have been here, I have been paid late 3 times. I actually got paid today for my paycheck for Friday.
What's the problem? The problem is he doesn't like to show upon Fridays or is too busy to come into the office so I can get paid. First time I let it slide. However, since then I have to pester him constantly over and over again until he finally pays me. I feel as if I didn't remind him he wouldn't pay. The second time it happened he just didn't show up to the office, I called him and he apologized and said he would have it on Monday. So then I continued to pester him over and over again in the last few weeks.
What happened last week? He called last Friday and said he would be in the office later in the afternoon and he would pay me. It was 4pm and I called him to see what's up. He said he wasn't going to make it that he would be in the office on Monday but that I should of reminded him. WTF?!!! Monday he calls and says the same thing he said on Friday, but never came in. Today he finally came in and I stood up and told him that it was ridiculous he apologized said he was going to work on writing my check he would have it in 5 minutes. Well it took two hours for me to get it.
Anyone have this experience? How the hell can an employee be loyal when the owner is ****ting all over the employees?
I should note that because us of this I do less than half ass work. I am really not going to dedicate myself to work for someone who treats is workers like crap. So out of my eight days of work I work maybe two.
Also, I am interviewing for jobs so hopefully I am out soon.
Benn there, done that. Get out as soon as possible.
It is either a bad habit or he is having financial problems or he's spending your money (covers his expenses first which are luxuries to us employees and leaves paycheck for last).
My advice according to my experience is: find another job as soon as possible even if it is a bit less money and leave before it becomes worse, believe me it can get way uglier.
Just make sure you do not burn bridges before you (if you haven't already with the pestering)
Sth I've learned the hard way is that it these kind of situations, as frustrating as it may be, you've got to keep these things to yourself and not to confront the management in such manner. Better leave silently so that you don't burn that bridge and that at least you have a good work reference.
check department of labor laws for your state. if he is in violation let him know verbally, email, post it in break room, toilet, wherever. keep check stubs for "pay period ending" date and note the day you received your check for every past infraction. document, document, document. notify payroll and/or HR. you should not have to run your money down! BUT, check your state laws. you might be surprised to find out that while you aren't getting paid on the date you anticipate, technically the paycheck might not be late.
Like others have said, been there done that. The company's going downhill and/or the boss is expoliting you.
either way start looking. But bring up the legal scenario only if you are confident that you won't need a reference from him or any other employee there for your next job. Otherwise may a quiet exit.
In the early 1980's I worked for a very small company. There were only five of us there when the owner started having financial problems. All of us were very loyal to him and stayed on, even when he could pay us only every other payday. I actually had to take out a loan in order to keep working for him.
I never thought about leaving him, however, as he'd been good to us when times were good. We always thought that eventually his business would recover and he'd be able to pay us the back pay owed us. He died of a sudden heart attack the next year and the five of us were left in desperate financial straits.
But, if I had to do it all over again, I'd do the same thing. I know youall will say I was stupid, but I managed to recover financially and was a stronger, better person for the experience.

I understand and I am as loyal as you can get. See the problem really is him though. Again, I have only been there two months and this has happened three times. If I had been there a year or two and this just started happening and he was a good boss, I could then be a little more patient.
However, I am still new here, and if this is how he is going to be off the bat, this is then a big problem. He also had the audacity to blame me on Friday over the phone for not reminding him. An employer should NEVER have to be reminded to pay his employees on the agreed schedule. Outside of that he is a very incompetent boss and extremely difficult to work with. Personality wise he is nice, but that's as good as he gets.

Nobody should ever have to go through this BS.
Seriously, you got obligations to meet as well as he does and I am sorry you have to endure this.
I owned my own business for over 20 years, at my high water mark I had 23 employees, and nobody ever had to wait one minute beyond 4:00 PM on Thursday to receive their check. I never bounced a check either.
In the early 1990's I was going to be gone on a cruise so I talked to everyone first, told them I would make everyone's check out for 40 hours and I would be back on Saturday and immediately make up for any overtime and to call me if they needed THEIR MONEY before Monday.
A couple guys had overtime which I made good the first thing when I got back. Everyone was cool with it.

I just don't understand how an employer can expect their employees to work hard and remain motiviated when they can't pay them on time? I started with a lot of motivation and this has been one of the biggest turn offs for me.

I agree and your case is different from mine.
