I don't know where to put this thread at. I'm sorry guys. A buddy of mine is thinking about going down to the sperm bank with me. I just want to know if anyone has donated before? How often can you donate? I'm trying to save up a $1,000 to pay off a credit card that was put it in my name by my mother(isn't she great 3yrs ago). I can't make her pay it and I can't let this go any longer. Do you guys think this plan is ridiculous? I have a lot of expenses and I just can't afford to take the money out of my check or make monthly payments is a no no... I want this to be paid off in whole and no worries and just want it to be done and over with so i can move on with my life.
I've looked into this before honestly, and from what I understand they are incredibly selective about who they allow to donate. Meaning how tall you are, how healthy you are, your genetic makeup, family history of certain diseases, how strong and healthy your sperm is, and etc. Only 3-5% of people that apply to be donors are eventually accepted, and the interview and application process can take months.
All that being said, if you're lucky enough to be accepted you can make up to $100 per sample and donate 1-3 times a week I believe. Obviously that adds up.
Believe it or not, most sperm banks require donors to have a bachelors degree now. They love accountants, doctors, ect. When they sell sperm, they have a short description about the donor, as well as their profession.

Short description? Try essays, full family medical histories, voice recordings, childhood pictures, at least two sets of bloodwork, psych evals, staff interviews, gpa, SAT score...
Each vial costs about $500...with 2 vials a cycle, that's some expensive, er, stuff!
$1000 bucks? Really? Go deliver pizzas for two months and you're done.
What if in a few years all of a sudden some woman comes and ask you for child support. Never say never. Like somebody already said, take a pizza delivery job for a couple of months. Or, donate plasma. I did that for 2 months, 2 days a week and made $600.
Is $1000 in a few months worth looking at every child you see and wondering if it's yours?
I was a surrogate mom for a couple (their sperm, donated egg, I carried). It's not quite so simple to make money ... puts on glasses .... hand over fist.
It doesn't seem like you're quite grasping the serious reality of what your donation would mean. There are far simpler ways to pay off credit card debt. Crickey, just dump the cell phone and cable for a few months. Skip Starbucks, a concert or two and eat at home a little more.
I had a friend who did this in college, back then ('88) he got $40 a shot which was mighty righteous for college student. He did say was relatively humiliating, apparently the load in question looks like way less than you'd think when in a shot glass and he had to leave the private room and walk past people to hand it to some woman at a desk. Still dude had way more pizza money than I did.

How much did you get paid for being a surrogate mom?

How do they even verify the family history, genetic makeup, etc ...? Folks can and do lie.
