I am working out a freelance opportunity in business development with a company but have no idea how compensation works for this. I previously wasn't working in biz development.
I know most have a min salary and then get a percentage of commissions for he business they bring in. But what is an average percentage? Can anyone offer some examples? Thanks.

It depends on the company and their product. It could be as little as .25% and as high as 25% or more--or anything in between.

Ok, that's what I was thinking...and I was hoping not to give details... but let's say it's advertising sales. Does that help narrow it down or still too vast?
