I hope this isn't a dumb question, but I've been out of the workforce for a while, and finances are tight for me and my BF. He keeps nagging me to look for a job, even though he sees all the news reports on how jobs have been lost and how many are out of work. So I pick up the classified section and it's way thinner than I remember it being several years ago. My question is, have the want ads mostly switched to online instead of print? Or if there were enough jobs around once again, would there be as many pages of print want ads as there used to be? I had success in applying for print ads. Online ads are trickier and many of them are bogus ads. Print ads were almost all the real deal.

Search through your state government employment site for both government and civilian jobs. Don't waste your time with those job sites that give you a ton of bogus jobs and try to recruit you to some worthless college like U of Phoenix. They are pure garbage.

In this economy, I think most employers don't need to advertise for a job opening. I'm sure just about everybody knows somebody who needs a job and most jobs are filled by having the right connections. Having said that, I also think most employers who have the need to advertise, will do so online.

My favorite site for looking online is indeed.com. This website will get search results from multiple job websites including Monster and Career Builder just to name a few. Or if you have a company in mind, you could just go directly to their website and see if they have any positions advertised.

If you're new to online job searching, you will see there are lots of bogus ads for employment. With a little bit of practice, you will quickly begin to figure out which ones are real and which ones aren't.

Good luck and I hope this helps.
