I work for a fortune 100 company. We have NEVER gotten a xmas bonus, turkey, nothing. I never expected it and would certainly not let this stop me from taking a good job. That being said, it is very disheartening to spend the holdays with a guy who is a welder (nothing wrong with that) that gets a turkey and $10k bonus for xmas and he thinks I am lying that I get nothing. They laugh about it every year that I work for who I work for and get NOTHING and he is a laborer and gets ten grand.
The welder's employer knows he makes money for his company and values his skill. A good welder is much, much more than just a "laborer".
Sadly this is the opinion of many American drones, causing corporations to collectively walk all over the American workforce, offering virtually no incentives, stripping away rights and dehumanizing their workers. It's sad really.
There are plenty of great jobs out there that don't pay bonuses or holiday pay. There are also great jobs out there that don't even offer health insurance or vacation pay.
If the pay structure itself is great, that makes up for a lot of other stuff. You have to look at the total picture, and not get distracted by smaller details.
