I'd report him to HIS bosses. He's probably got a track record of this type of behavior. Nothing will probably happen, but if you can make his life miserable, why not?

The time to do that would have been when the OP actually worked there. Now it is pointless.

Hostile work environment laws are enforced by the EEOC, under harassment laws. They can impose fines against an employer. The money goes to the government, not to the employee. If you wanted damages, you'd need to sue them in civil court.

But--you don't meet the standard of EEO laws. An employer has a duty to prevent harassment. A single incident that the company doesn't know about doesn't meet that standard. It would have to be something that was known to management and occurred on repeated occasions. that they had a chance to address and failed to.

Exactly what do you want to happen? Inasmuch as the manager probably shouldn't have yelled at you or threw your books; you had a responsibility to stand up for yourself --at that moment or shortly thereafter.

Well the boss was in a bad mood and decided my textbooks were in the way so he took them one by one and threw them on the floor swearing at me all the while. I felt extremely uncomfortable after the situation that I ended up putting in my two week notice. When I told my family and friends what happened they said I should report him because him unprofessional actions caused me to feel like I couldn't work there and therefore I quit but I do not know where to report him to and if it is even a legitimate enough reason to report someone. Also what would be the consequences for him and myself if I were to report him? Please let me know what you think.
The only unprofessional actions were yours. You don't read at a Host stand.
You read behind closed doors and on your own time, not your employers whether they say it's 'ok' or not.

You don't work there anymore, so nothing will happen to him. Any report will be tossed aside as that of a disgruntled ex-employee.

Move on to bigger and better.
