Hi,

I'm working for a large corporation. I'm wondering about the probationary period, which comes to an end in two weeks. What is the typical raise in percentage after that period if you learned quick and applied everything to the complete satisfaction of the supervisor? Does the employee initiate a pay raise by approaching the manager or should the employee wait for the manager to make that step?

I'm a bit concerned because the general manager who hired me just recently left the company. I'm afraid the new manager doesn't know me well enough to evaluate me.

What is the evaluation process after the probationary period like? Does the general manager usually speak my co-workers and with me, and do I have a say in pay raise or do I have to accept whatever the manager offers?

Thanks for your contribution

Actually I've never known the end of a probationary period to herald a pay increase. The probationary period is to determine whether or not you keep the job and are then eligible to qualify for company benefits. Were you told otherwise when you were hired?

Yes, I was told that the end of the probationary period will see a pay raise

At my employer the end of the 6 month probation means you are eligible for a raise. The amount is determined by your supervisor and subject to a maximum set annually at budget time. Currently that is 3%. I would think that all employers are going to be different. Check with HR, or your internal (Intranet) site.

Well then my suggestion is to wait until the probationary period is up, give it a week or so and then, if you hear nothing, approach the manager and ask what the status is. As far as how much of a raise you can expect I don't think anyone can answer that question and you'll just have to wait and see. Hope you do pass through probation with flying colors and that everything works out well for you.
