I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with ya there, Bob.

I don't interact with him on a daily basis. I am the lowest on the totem pole and we have 200 people at this office alone. I don't care if he knows my name or not. He is still polite and cordial.

I kind of don't want him to know who I am. But I do see your point. Previously my CEO was my direct superior. I welcome the change and anonymity.

Boss or not, I think it's rude for him to not make the effort to know his employees by name. In business or in a social situation you deserve recognition for being yourself. I guess you could resort to wearing a "name tag" with your name on it to accent the obvious, but I would probably have a little private talk with him and gently let him know how it makes me feel and that a little consideration would be appreciated. I bet if you screwed something up, he would know EXACTLY who you were!!!!! He may not even be aware he does it, but after a little talk, he may improve.

I had a boss once who used to change people's names into nicknames and then refer to them with that nickname. I can't remember any of them now, but the boss would make up something that rhymed with their name, or combine their first and last initial to make a nickname, things like that.

Anyway, I hated it, and so one day, after more than a year of this, I changed the boss's name into nickname and started calling him that. When he would say something to me, I would say, "Yes, nickname."

What I noticed is that he didn't really like that, and soon after, stopped using a nickname to speak to me.

Bosses are human so a polite correction would work fine. I have a boss that constantly mispelled my name (which has the common spelling) with an uncommon spelling ... When I asked her for a letter of reference, I politely informed her about the correct spelling of my first name and she apologized. Apparently, she has a close friend who has the same name as me but uses an unusual variation on the spelling... No biggie

Keep correcting him, politely, but firmly. He's trying to see how far he can go bullying you. It doesn't matter if he's the CEO and you just mop the floors, respect is respect. If he can get away with twisting your name around, he will poke for bigger targets.

Simply say The name is Tim, then continue with your conversation.Otherwise, he will make you his target whenever it suits him.
