Default Working 3 executive hours without any breaks in between...

I currently work at a place (which seems to be an alternative school) as a Custodial Worker. My main job is to clean things throughout the building.

The thing is that I work 3 hours and sometimes don't get any breaks in between. I don't have a problem with working 3 hours without any breaks, since there are also some times where my supervisor takes us to other places to clean.

My question is: Is it normal to not have a break when working only 3 hours a day?

Like I said, I don't have a problem with not getting breaks because I'm only working 3 hours. I don't really care if the question above is a 'No'. Sometimes, I'll ask my supervisor for a 10-minute break and they will probably say 'yes' depending on what else needs to be cleaned.

I am a part-time employee who is in a youth employment program and is learning how to get a job. Can anyone answer the question above?

Umm, why would you need a break during a 3 hour shift? And I believe the word you were looking for was consecutive...

The break doesn't have to be long. I usually ask for a break that is less than 10 minutes.

Did you read the entire post? I explained that I don't need a break.

The short answer is no.

Here is a link for some states...
Rest and Meal Breaks - State Laws and Codes

It seems that if you worked four hours in some states you would be entitled.

Do you mean 'no' as in I can't get a break with only a 3-hour shift or do you mean 'no' that I can get a break with only a 3-hour shift?

I'm sorry. I meant no, you are not entitled to a break during a three hour shift. In the link it appear the majority of state laws require you to work at least four hours in order to be entitled to a break.

Breaks are usually only given on 4+ hour shifts. Now if you were sitting in front of a computer screen for 3 hours i'd say you are entitled to a short break but that isn't the case with your position.

Exactly. Three hours is not a long shift and I wouldn't want to see that paycheck. At my place of employment you only get a break if you work five or more hours and even that is optional. I believe by law an unpaid 30 minute break for 7+ hours is the only required break. The paid fifteen breaks that a lot of retail places give are optional.

Edit: I re-read your post and noticed that you're young. My first job at 16 was a cashier and I remember on school days I'd work five hours from 3-8 with no break. So yes, 3+ hours without a break is fairly common. You can always go to the restroom if you need to.

Under DWD 274.02 in Wisconsin there are no required by law mini-breaks. The only recommendation is an unpaid 30 break at the 6 hour mark for those over 18 (req for those under).
