Not to make you feel more guilty, but you may have traded one emotional burden for another.
It has shifted from dealing with an unbearable work situation to dealing with the strain in your relationship due to financial burdens.
All you can do now is use your time wisely to find another job (any job) until you find something better.
Always weigh your options (and consult those who will be affected i.e. the boyfriend, with whom you're sharing living expenses with) before you make those kinds of decisions.
This is spot on. Now the boyfriend is covering all the expenses.
This could be become a bigger issue than a bad work enviorment.
I really think these guys were testing her. If she had showed them she wasn't going to put up with it, that might have nipped it in the bud.
You let them know by giving right back to them that you're not a target and they would have backed down. Because it sounds like those things were being done on purpose.
Go back to the temp agency and see if they have anything. Hopefully this wasn't a temp to perm position that they got you. Because I believe they lose their commission if the employee doesn't stay a certain amount of time. They don't like that.
This job wasn't for a prissy girl. It's best for everyone that she quit. She wasn't a good fit.
I completely agree. I wasn't aware cleanliness in the workplace was the top priority for some employees, but apparently it is for the OP. It was perplexing to me why she would go around and clean up the office if her position is the office coordinator; isn't that the job of the janitorial/cleaning staff? Anyways, this is the type of environment where if someone knows something is bothering you, they will just do more of it to get to you... especially if you are the newbie. It is kind of like paying your dues. If one small sarcastic comment caused the OP to blow up, then it is best for all parties that she quit.

Some office coordinator jobs have this as a responsibility. I had one myself. It gets old.
I don't blame you for quitting. I don't buy the "they were testing her" argument. Clearly the mentality was entrenched at that place. They weren't going to suddenly start cleaning up after themselves because the "new girl" told them to.
I wonder if you would have got in your car and driven to a clean service station restroom 3 times a day if the boss would have changed things? What a terrible work environment. Good luck in the future.
OP, from your post it seems you were working in filthy conditions in both the bathroom and office. I back you 100% on your actions and would have done exactly the same in your situation.
Yes, jobs are hard to find, but sometimes you need to take a stand against horrid conditions just to get a check.
You'll be fine. The same way you got this one you'll get another.
I guess a big part of my guilty feeling is that I don't have a job and my boyfriend has some of the financial burden until I get a job. Even though he is very successful and does well financially I still feel badly. I plan to get a job, even if its not ideal (just clean), until I find the right fit.
He'll be fine and if you told him the same disgustingly filthy conditions you had to work under like you did here I'm sure he knows it's for the best.
She can always go on welfare. According to one of my co-workers, welfare recipients all drive Cadillacs, load up shopping carts full of food every day at the grocery store using their food stamps, and sit around watching pornography all day.
Completely untrue.
Only most of them do.
