Personally, I think it is BS. They want to keep you on a leash, but no commitment. It is an employer "booty call". "Sure I like you, don't date other guys, I might call you Friday, or not".

Whatever. Don't hold your breath. An offer is a job, anything else is fluff.

Any HR people have some insight on this? Waiting certainly is the hardest part. It's driving me NUTS!

Update:

Just got an email from them. Not job offer yet, but they actually wanted to make sure that I would be comfortable with certain duties of the position? Good sign?

Great sign. If you've made it this far in the process, it's almost certain you'll be hired barring some unfortunate circumstance such as utterly failing the background check.

Thanks! I hope you are right! My background check should be fine...

I had an employer tell me the same thing 2 years ago and I never heard back from him again. I called and left a message, but no return call. He showed me around the office. Showed me where my desk would be, told me how much he liked me and what a great fit I was, but he had to interview one more person because it had already been scheduled.

Obviously doesn`t mean that will happen to you, but I learned a lesson from that.

Thanks for your response. I know I don't have the offer until it's in my hands. It's just been an interesting process, this final round that is.

Same thing happened to me, except I start Monday.

So, yeah, you don't know until you know.

only time well tell
Why would they need a reason to hire the other person? If they wanted the other person, they would have made them an offer. Obviously they are interested in the OP or they would have told him/her to take a hike.
